Ah come on now Hank, couldn't ya just go for a good ole fashioned Nor Eastah? IL is no Texas or Florida, but the winters beat the heck out of northern NH.

    EhYup!

Many, many years ago in an early May, the Black Flies were expecially bad. An old friend of my Father's commented...

"EhYup, give coupla hot days, they'll be gone....then be Skeetahs!
"Give coupla hot days, they'll be gone...then be Wintah!"

    :teeth:

Unofficailly it's 26" at my house and still lightly snowing

Public Transporation is 100% offline; Plane, Bus, and Train. The few RTD trains that did try to run early today reported 5-6 FEET of snow drifts at the stations and thus no one was there to pick up. DENVER is basically an island; the only route in & out is to the west into the mountains; it's no cake walk but it's still open. They say the snow will still be falling for several more hours here and longer to the NE as the storm slowing moves away. Some people with 4x4 are moving and the hospitals are asking those that can help transport people into the hospitals to please assist. The Colorado National Guard is still in operation through out the metro area; mainly search & rescue as well as moving supplies for the Red Cross to shelters and to DIA where about 2,000+ people are stuck.

Got about 3' at my house. No biggie really though. Just another day in the high country. Up here we usually get 5-10 storms like this per year. Nothing like the storm in March of 03' - 7 feet of snow in 24 hours. That was fun. Gave me a lot of good modeling days though.

I heard on the news this morning about the 6-7 foot drifts, wow! Northern IL is just getting rain and its 41 out. To think we got a foot on December 1st and it did not warm up any higher than 20 degrees. Now like THarms said, it's all gone.

    Be safe CO guys!

    Dog days in Denver

My dogs aren't too sure about going out in a foot of snow, how the heck do you get them to go out in 2-3 feet? :)

Hi guys. My tape measure says 20" of snow. Not bad. :)

I realized we were going to be shut ins for a day or two so I bought lentils and sausages and made soup last night. Theres nothing like a good stick to your ribs soup for a winter snow storm.

i walked to the neighborhood liquor store last night for a bottle of wine and lots of people were just out walking around and waving and saying hi to strangers. On my way back I saw a bus stuck at an intersection. I guess even with those huge wheels he should have put on chains.

As for train watching. I am near the joint line and I haven't heard a thing roll by the last 24 hours. I did hear something warbling it's whistle in the yards last night. It was creepy sounding like wolves howling in the night. I can usually hear light rail too, but it's quiet as well. The only place trains will be rolling around here is in my basement. :D

I've got chains. Do NOT have 4wd though. With 22" at the house, just a quick trip around a couple of blocks was a challenge of its own!
Almost got stuck on the corner, trying to turn! Wheels cranked all the way right, and still moved foward, into snow pile on corner. 4 blocks away!
Luckily, I was able to break free after a couple minutes of back and forth rocking.

And the idea of heading UP into the hills, where snow is worse just doesn't sound very good right now. I try not to drive in the stuff if I can help it.
No choice today though as I gotta go back to work by 10PM tonight.

Oh well......Driveway is clean, street packed down pretty good.
Snow piles up to 4' high, or higher, along driveway edges.
Don't think I'm gonna be able to run the Mini Monster for a while now!

Anyway, gonna go back and grab a nap before work. Just be extra careful, for those that have to go out!

Well, it's all over :( Typical Denver, the sun came out briefly this afternoon and the metldown has begun. All the neighbors were out having a blast shoveling the driveways - almost as good as a block party! According to one of the local TV stations it was the 5th largest storm in recorded Denver history. Off to work again tomorrow! :D

Give credit to ABC News last night, they showed folks stuck at the airport and in the bus station, BUT (drum roll, please) three video bites of folks boarding Amtrak and the trains leaving town....Go Amtrak!

Just hope folks are prepared for the major storm moving into Colorado starting sometime today!
Last I heard, between 2-5 inches of snow by tonight. And between 7-12" by tomorrow. With the brunt of the storm to hit Friday night into Saturday. Sounding as if we could get up to another 2 feet of snow before all is said and done.
Guess we'll have to wait and see what actually hits and how bad!

Wow, you guys are getting hammered! Great Falls actually got 4-6 inches last night, including freezing rain. Could have been more, but it was windy, and drifting. I had a 3-foot drift in front of the door at work... This morning's drive to work included an ice rink under the snow on the roads. Fun! Sideways thru the streets... We are expecting more--we'll see.

A decidedly young ABC talking head reporting from Stapleton this evening was attempting to describe near-blizzard conditions and the forecasted (shudder) problems, while no more than three, count 'em - 3, snowflakes drifted by her head. And the networks wonder why they have minimal credability....

Sorry Darren, what you guys went through last week, and may well experience over the next few days is near catastrophic, but that kind of reporting does nothing to gain national sympathy for weather-related problems.
