    Hi AJ......,
I have been studying the guide to DCC and it explains that NCE and System One have many interchangeable components....specifically the cab (hand control device). I like the small cab with the large knob. (System One). It can only run trains, it doesn't do anything else but that's fine. It would serve as an extra cab.
Atlas and Lenz are compatible as are Digitrax and the other units who use Loconet.

The story goes that NCE used to make the components for Wangrow System One, then they decided to go out on their own.

The one goal of the NMRA with their DCC standards was to make sure there is compatibility. One DCC loco can run on another DCC layout. There are however some differences to allow for personal preferences etc.

The most glaring differences is the voltage at which the track power runs. The Atlas/Lenz system runs almost at 16-18 volts DC. This could cause a problem with some decoders. But this may be able corrected with the use of rectifying diodes and or resistors to bring the voltage down.

Websites such as Tony's Train Exchange and Loy's Toys have some good technical information out there. There are also some good DCC boards like here and other places. Good luck.
