One more section to go after this. Then it will be time to ensure all is level and well supported structurally. uploadfromtaptalk1452468975414.jpg

I will replace the backdrop. It was a cheap 20 dollar thing I found at a party store. When I saw it I figured it would work well. I just need a better backing behind it..

I am not looking forward to the plywood sheeting I will have to buy. I plan on using 1/4 inch plyfloor. I used it once before and it held up to time and weight well. I try to reuse a lot of things. I have found that with as much wire I have picked up over the years, I can reuse a lot of that to. I am speaking of old telephone line for indoors. I used it for DCC ( wasn't sure it would work great) and it worked great, no cost and more colors.

You should now have a wee bit of sawdust laying around. May be useful in some future scenic texturing project?

Actually. A friend of mine has lots of sawdust for me. He uses a lot of colored heartwoods that have great texture and color.. So now worries there.
Now I just got to get things leveled out and set for the plyfloor.

Level? Level? You don't need no stinking level!

Wow, you got busy this weekend! Looking good!

I have been busy again lately here. Got the plywood mounted. Left an opening for tunnel access. Working on finishing touches for the scenic part. I need to cut out for a couple creeks there. Then mount some more 1x2 on the wall to support the backdrop. And then make the cuts for raising Carnage above Maudlin.

Today I worked on elevations for the track. The first picture is of Palpation canyon. There will be Two tall trestles here. The second picture is the split level between Carnage (top) and Maudlin.
The third picture is looking from Balderdash towards Carnage and Maudlin.
This is more fun than I thought! I am glad I used an actual program to help me with the track plan. It has made building this layout much easier.
The last picture is a different angle of the previous. I have a couple challenges ahead with bridges. But I think I have a good plan in my head for that.

Nice progress. I see you have a little 'mascot' there inspecting the work!

That, is a little carved agate dinosaur from the gift shop in Makoshika state park in Montana. He has been around for awhile now.
Things here have come to a head. I have all the elevations set for trackage. I think I am ready for track. But for a refresher, what do you guys do when you're at this stage? I have a few things to work out and get to where I want. (Gaps for bridges, riversand such) I have just a few days to do any heavy work.
Come again in February, I have to have surgery to repair the hernia surgery I had in August. I hope to be able to at least lay track while I recover.

And since money is going to be tight the next two months, I may start to sell off some of my older things I do not use now, and some of the parts I don't have a need for. Along with other things...

This reminds me of the late John Allen's humor. He has "Emma, the work Stegosaurus", which appeared at various times in his photos.

This does not exactly sound good. Surgery to repair surgery? :(

Yep, the mesh they use to make those repairs got bunched up someplace where they couldn't tack it. Or whatever they do. So now I get time to sit on my arse and read this stuff. I may have to sell some things. I will probably use the LHS consignment. N-scale stuff does not sit long there. I am gonna be off work at least 6 weeks, maybe more.

Well about all I have got done here lately is to finish lining and squaring things up for my track roadbed. I also started laying down the roadbed, however I ran out. But no worry, more is on the way.:)
Tomorrow I go in for surgery for hernia repair again. I am not sure how much I am going to get done in the coming weeks but I did at least accomplish the heavy stuff. So wish me luck that this time the repair holds.

Boys and girls, my surgery was a success today and I was sent home. Everything is tender, and sore but I have not taken any pain pills at all. (I really hate pills, and since my I am pretty much immune to pain its more discomfort really. Thank you Saddam[IMG]) Most of my railroad work is gonna be pretty slow for awhile.
I do have a couple ideas and questions squirreling around in my head. One is about sidings on slopes. How common are they? And does it matter so much?
Second, stub end yards. What is a suitable length for the shortest spur? I have a couple ideas but would need a couple suggestions. I am thinking of one in B'Dash and maybe a small one in Maudlin. Keep in mind I may add a stage using the spur line up by Maudlin. Probably will. But it will more likely be nothing very detailed. Just a place to stage cars and locos off of the layout. And I have some awesome shelving I hoarded from somewhere for that. Pretty looking stuff!
I recently noticed pictures of Milwaukee in Lombard Mt. not sure how it happened, but B'Dash and Lombard have some similarities. I love happy accidents....

Siding or spur? A passing siding where cars aren't uncoupled and trains just pass are pretty common. Spurs on slopes however, well you can't spot a car if its gonna roll away unless you want to devise a brake solution.
Shortest yard track IMO should be relative to the size trains you run and what the whole yard should be able to handle, if that makes any sense.
Glad you are home and on the road to recovery!

Yes I want a passing siding maybe. was just curious if it would be common or not. Crazy I know!
As for the stub yard in Balderdash, I want it there to help build trains, and store MOW and cabeese. Nothing to fancy. Just someplace for some operation use really. Most of my trains will be 14-20 cars long.
