We have a policy of inclusiveness here, and for that reason we probably get more "newbie" posts than some of the other guys. Personally, I believe that helping out the new folks is just as important to the continuation of the hobby as the work of the hobby's more accomplished modelers.

If anyone has concerns about site moderation may I suggest sending a PM to any of the administrators or moderators with your concerns.

Many of us are modelers, club members, show organizers, and so on, and many of us consider our role here answering questions and helping out newer people to be an important part of the hobby.

    Thank you,
    Adam

I've removed your last two posts...

If you have an issue with it, please take it up with me or another member of the staff outside of this topic.

Shelf life might be extended by adding Stainless Steel washers to displace the air in a partially used jar . Just add washers as it gets used up to keep the liquid at or near the top as if the jar was new . The bigger the diameter of the washer that still fits the jar the better . The smaller the hole the better:confused3:. Still wondering what the shelf life is on an unopened jar though .

I am a simple guy and tend to see things in a simple way.

We have a manufacturer who posted news about a new product.
It received some positive feedback as to concept and it was widely agreed that the manufacturer might benefit (or be sunk) after initial testing.

The discussion over price and shipping and handling would not have gone on as it has here if the manufacturer was Atlas, or MT, or Kadee or whomever EXCEPT that this manufacturer chose to respond to the questions every time that he logged back onto Trainboard.

Please cut this guy some slack and treat him the same as any other manufacturer. I know people came off at Model Power with its 4-4-0 debacle with the defective wiring. It was deserved. This maker does not yet deserve any criticism.

Sorry but your corrections need to be corrected. I've had issues with the TTs on my 2-8-0 and saw no groove. I found this very irritating because of it slipping off. If there is supposed to be a groove, maybe I need to contact bachmann as I may have a defective loco. I've actually had one of the tt's come off 3 times now because of this. (Just looked at it to check and the tt has slipped again.) and yes the loco will rock on the tt equipped drivers which would not happen if it had a correct groove. So going off what you said someone at the Bmann factory screwed up

As for securing a tt, sure I can try the paint, but since I'm getting a sample for testing why shouldn't I test it? The potential problem with your idea is that the chemicals and the paint can sometimes make the inside of the TT hard and can cause it to become brittle over time.

As for the 0-6-0, you are looking at a newer one. I have one purchased in 1981, and I can assure you it has NEVER had traction tires. Has no grooves either. However, the new 0-6-0 I bought in 2004 has tt's. I should have been more specific and you shouldn't be so quick to jump

Moderators and adminstrators at Trainboard are called upon, nearly every day, to make sound judgments about the reality of posts. I think we do this with admirable accuracy: we certainly discuss our decisions at length in our staff forums. When a post becomes unrealistic, we remove it; when a member persists in unreality, we ban the member. We exercise this authority with great caution. Unfortunately, we had to exercise it on this thread.

This thread has been a great discussion of a new product, called with all levity Bullfrog Snot. With such a brand name, levity in the discussion should be expected. I hate to be so serious in discussing this! I need Bullfrog Snot for my car's tires on this miserably snowy day!

In other words, let's lighten up. What loco has what groove is not a reason to go into apoplexy.

Apoplexy, even if applied in moderation, will not improve traction :)

I have found that a string of expletives won't fix wiring or track problems, either.

Bill, I look forward to testing out the samples you are sending, and I will see if I can get an HO guy or two to try it, too.

    It is, or it's SNOT

Jar was considered. I wanted an opening such that a toothpick could reach the bottom and extract every last snotty tire. Don't get snot on the jar thread, or it will cure itself shut. Which is why I provided a lid with teeth.

Still have some samples available .......

    preliminary results

Hi, I recieved a sample of this product at the end of last week. I have applied it to two engines so far with encouraging results. The product applies easily as described by the maker, it did take me a couple of tries to get it right though. Mea culpa.
After drying overnight the result was essentially clear, unnoticeable, and very thin. An obvious improvement in traction is evident.
The engines have now been run six hours each and show no signs of gunking up the test track or deteriorating in any way. After a few more days I'll reclean the track and see what if anything has been deposited.
One unanticipated problem came when applying the snot to my MP 4-6-2. The clearance between the rear driver and the trailing brake shoe is so close that the liquid transferred to the brake shoe and glued them together. After partial disassembly and cleaning the area, I decided to file out the brake shoe a little for more clearance. This worked fine and should have been obvious if I'd thought about it before hand. So far so good. I will repost when more running has been done. Thanks for the sample!

I am thinking about getting some of this and seeing how it will lay in a machined groove on a wheel designed for a traction tire, I would think that it would be a little thicker within the cavity and would not spin off like traction tires?

    SNOT in grooves

I've not tried that. I think a bit of creative epoxy or putty work to fill the groove, then SNOT over it would be better. I also have not applied SNOT over an existing tire.

And yes, it does get on the brake hangers if applied in excess. Can be plucked off easily with tweezers when partially cured.

PM me an address for a sample.

The brake hangers on the MP loco's are a problem even for their traction tire conversions so that it to be expected. I recieved a sample today, will try to report back in a few days when I get a chance to put it through the paces.

As far as the point of paint used to secure traction tires, that is why I use acrylic paint. It has no real solvent to attack the rubber.

Bill, I received my sample today also. Tomorrow I will apply it to my 0-6-0 and let it dry for 24 hours before I use it. Thanks and I will keep you and everyone else posted.

Maybe I should ask for a sample, too

    Bill,

I've got a B-mann Spectrum Heabvy Mountain that, on my Woodland Scenics Scenic Ridge layout, can't make it up the 4%+ grade coming out of the tunnel under the mountains- even with a full-throttle running start. With 4 Athearn Strasburg Railroad sourvenir cars!
Pitiful. It just barely makes it BTTW running naked. And yet, on a flat track oval, this thing will blind you from the wind burn.

IF you have a sample left and think it will help (keep in mind that the layout is down until mid-February earliest; Sandy has the table for her HO Christmas garden until then), PM me at jkratzer3(at)verizon(dot)net and I'll give you the shipping addy.

And I love the name - having seen some bullfrogs, I can IMAGINE how well they stick to EVERYTHING!

    Jim
