I wonder how they did tank car cleaning back in the early 20th century?? On a modern layout, this is a simple build, with a lot of potential for details. A need for a 'critter' of some sort. A nearby private car repair shop, (in the old Milwaukee Road roundhouse at Miles City,) and some sidings. Railroading is always a fascinating industry!
For my first video catch of '24, I was able to catch this "unofficial" NP heritage unit as DPU during daylight hours!
They are now running V-trains with one unit fore and astern. Seems silly to me in winter, if the leader has heating issues, the crew is stuck getting cold. Old BN rules did not allow such an unsafe situation. But here we go,
Ain't caught much time to do the forum lately, but I still catch a train now and then! Caught this guy at Dickinson, ND. Waited 30 minutes in the COLD wind for it after hearing the dispatcher give them a warrant on the radio. And this was a happy surprise the other morning!! They are all still sitting here yet.
That old BN box car is a surprise. What is happening with the audio? It is very strange, gurgling-echo like.
Thanks for watching and commenting. The auctioneer was rattling away in the background, and there was a little bit of a breeze, so it yielded a funny sound. The new camera has a foam noise suppressor on it, but I may have to upgrade to a fuzzy one.
Well, vacation is over. Saw 4014 and chased it to Laramie, WY, then headed east. Found the UP 3977 at North Platte, an unexpected and happy surprise there. More steam at Kearney and Minden, NE. Fun stuff. Got back home after some extended family time, and have been going 10+ hours a day to play catch up, whew! Found a few moments to catch a train or two, last Sunday and today. Today's catch had foreign power in the set, Yesterday and MRL showed up, no time to wait around for it to head east. Back on the 19th, a UP was leading the charge on coal, And last Sunday, we caught this guy racing through Terry as we landed for church.
And today we got "caught" at the crossing for the east end of the yard, and the UP had a DPU at the end of this oil can, with NS in the middle of the head end. I would say it hurt my feelings, but y'all would know I was lieing!
No better way for a railfan to spend time at a crossing than to watch the train go by! Count the cars just for the cherry on top. Great video.
