Most D&RG narrow gauge steam engines still around lasted until they received the "Speed Lettering" paint scheme. I don't quite remember when they changed but I belive it was shortly after W.W.II. Before that they just had a herald on the tender and before that Denver & Rio Grande Western was spelled out in standard Railroad Roman lettering.
I nearly forgot about another great railfan train site (UtahRails.net) that has this statement: I found this Video via GOOGLE that shows a different color pattern. [ 28. May 2004, 21:38: Message edited by: Stourbridge Lion ]
Lol,I just bought this vid off e-bay!(am I allowed to say that here?),It is one of the best DRGW n/g vids I have seen to date, highly recomended. Thanks for the info. BTW,does anyone dabble in Nn3???
Just to show something different, here are two small diesels that used to run on a 2' gauge industrial railroad down here in Mexico called the F.C. Cobos y Furbero. One has a builders plate that shows it was built in 1937 by Vulcan. The other doesn't have a builder's plate, and is slightly different, but I believe it's from the same order as I understand they bought 5 of them from Vulcan in the same order. The road was built and owned by the oil companies in the area, and when they nationalized the industry in 1938 I expect that the railroad passed to Pemex along with the rest of the industry, hence the Pemex markings on the engine. I like two foot stuff! Nice to know these were preserved! The side rod three axle is certainly unique! Boxcab E50
I believe that 268 was one of the engines that had the "Bumble Bee" scheme. Didn't at least one survive until retired in those colors? I know one was deliberately wrecked in a movie. Boxcab E50
Narrow guage stuff is quite interesting. I don't want to overdo it but here's five different locos from Nevada City,CA. All photos taken 2004-2005. Nevada County Narrow Guage #5: Antelope & Western #1: NCNG&TM #10 Plymouth: The Northern Queen's Nevada County Traction: Also owned by the Northern Queen Inn, Argent Lumber #5: I have tons more narrow guage featured on my Foothill Rails site.
