I thought those schemes were known as Dark Future, Bright Future, and Stealth, in the order on that railpictures photo? Do the CSX fans still use those terms, or are there even more CSX paint schemes not shown? Bah! CSX!
Check out the MTL media release link, nice photo of the 2 http://www.micro-trains.com/media package_0904.html Mike...
Green? I still don't know where they figure "green" in this paint scheme (I mean, prototypical... not MTL).
Oh yes, there are more paint schemes. YN2 is also known as bright future. This is YN3 aka dark future: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=277575 The other paint schemes (no nicknames I know of): This was CSX's first scheme. In the late 80s we got this, this and stealth; I'm not sure in what order. All of these often received yellow noses without a full repaint: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=166874 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=217557 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=17326 It's these that are called YN1. Then we got YN2 starting in the early 90s and YN3 starting in 2002.
CSX does have GP35 painted in YN2 and YN3, but they are missing inportand stuff like the prime mover, generator and radiators. Now if MT would come out with GP40-2. But seriously not many got repainted into a CSX scheme before they were made into road slugs and the few that were repainted, were painted into the CSX blue roof and truck scheme.
I just received my samples today of the new releases. Love them! First, the B&O car is absolutely outstanding. Our O scale club as the larger version they run and I have always admired it. I am so happy to have it in Z. I plan to run it behind my AZL C&O GP7. The CSX gondola really has me excited. The fact that this car serves the steel industry is very exciting to me. I am a fan of the steel industry which is one reason we offered the P&LE set. Plus, CSX is one of my roads that I like to operate. This has been a gondola I have been waiting for. Also, does anyone else think that the 'Ease up' logo looks a little like the MTL logo? Rob
I just received my BNSF GP35 from Loren and it is a beauty. I plan to move the horns and add a pilot/snowplow. Very nice. John
BNSF green? I received my April releases from Sir Loren of Medford, Order of the Pie. Thank You, Loren and Joe and MTL! But... Where does one get the idea that the BNSF GP-35 has "green" in it? I looked at it in direct sunlight... looks black to me (this is NOT a complaint... just asking).
I'll have to take mine out and take a look at it when I get home (in the northwest, sunlight is hard to come by right now) and check. I know the Heritage II scheme, also known as the pumpkin scheme, is orange and green and assumed the Heritage I colors were the same. John
BNSF Green? I just checked on line and both the Heritage I and II schemes are based on Great Northern orange and dark green. John
Alex, it looks about right to me. The yellow could be a little brighter, other then that, not too bad. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=31570
It looks "ok" in this shot. The green could be a little lighter overall. A common mistake people make is to think BNSF H1, 2 or 3 uses any color from the GN or past heritage. This is just not true.
We used the available color chips to match the paint. Depending on substrate colors might shift a little but these were real close. Joe MTl
Okay... Like I mentioned... I'm not questioning MTL or complaining about this release. I'm just not seeing "green"... even though it IS prototypical. Did BNSF actually call this some shade of "green"?
I know you weren't...just wanted everyone to know we matched chips we had. I don't know the offical name at the moment, but it is kinda dark. I know one of the PRR greens reads black until you see it in bright light...same goes with the green you start with when doing NdeM Engines. Cheers Joe MTL
