Nice road, Mike! How do you keep the width of the road consistent as you cut a meandering path like that?
Thanks TD I first make a paper template and then cut it out and lay it on the felt. I then spray some light color of paint around the edge and lift off the template . Then I cut it out with some large scissors. Thanks Mike PS I use 2 pencils on a compass to make the template even and glue the felt down a lttle at a time with hot glue and roll with a wall paper roller to lay it down.
Thanks , my buddy Mike Cannazeros turned me on to the idea and it works well. I then paint it with the wanted color and do the striping with a flex ruler , french curve and artist pencils.
I am not sure of the scenery yet. I know a few things I will use at the ghost town are and the small Burg to the right. I plan on a small motel there and an abandon sawmill. The building there across the tracks is the old box factory that is still open. A pecan orchard maybe across from the ATSF depot. I just will play it by ear!! Mike
I have started a Blair Line Sunset Motel. I have stuccoed the office and built the room bases and walls. This is a very well designed kit and goes together extremely well. I will be calling it the Yucca Motel and have scanned and redone the sign on photo paper and sprayed with Testors Decal coating to protect the ink. The yucca on top of the sign will have a long stem coming out the top. I will be using Model Tech Studios roof sign maker to make the Yucca sign that goes on top of the bungalows. Mike
For the decals that include white (such as the text on Yucca MOTEL, or the background on CASH ONLY) will you paint white behind before you apply them?
Here is the Motel in place on the layout. It is in front of and slightly to the right of the ghost town. Thanks , Mike
Mike, I have the same kit but have yet to assemble it. Currently I am thinking about concentrating on installing decoders in some more of my locos. I do not do much on the layout during the summer months but still plan, purchase parts and more rolling stock.
Mike, Back in the late 60's, we drove a VW Bug to San Diego, Ca. We tried following Route 66 from Bloomington, Ill to California because the hippies were doin' it. Stayed at a lot of motels along the way that looked like yours. Remember some of them were 5 bucks a nite w/o air conditioning. Those were the days - but do not want to try it at age 67!
