I have painted the walls on my Como roundhouse and glued them together. This kit must be a solid 12 on a 1 to 10 difficulty scale.... there are just so many things that has to work out in the end. So far no bigger errors (I hope...)
I have spiked some more tracks. The curved approach track with a 28" radius was made with the wonderful laser cut sweep sticks that a friend in the US made for me. Here are some pics of where in the project I am right now.
The walls are the kits walls cast in dental plaster. I painted the walls with mixes of artist acrylics. Raw umbre, yellow ochre, red oxide, white and black. I kept the colors light and varied throughout. I then painted with off white and wiped off instantly to just get paint in the mortar. Then I used raw umbre dry pastels to weather the walls. I have added some ground cover and some flooring in the roundhouse. Roof joists B/W:
Thanks! The roundhouse area is getting closer to completion. A whole lot of details and weeds are still to be added.... The roof is currently being covered with tissue paper.
I have made the smoke stacks and the above roof beams with the stay rods. I have also started the construction of the roundhouse doors. They are very intricate in their design, as they are made up entirely of scale dimensional lumber.... 1" x 3" for the diagonal planking, and 1" x 8" for the framing. I make full height doors like the original had when built, as I want to be able to have taller locos inside the roundhouse.
The beams were by necessity, as the distance between the supports were too great. Why they didn't use any on the outer stalls I can't tell....
Trimmed the doors to fit the openings. The plastic hinges are being drilled for the hinge rod. A bit tricky to install the hinges to the doors and still get a perfect fit....
