From Jan 95, I was uplate riding a test unit in helper service on MRL's Bozeman pass. We were waiting on this train to go by. The BN sent a couple of plows our way for repairs and some repainting, I think,
And again , in Jan 95, we were in the process of scrapping some excess units for the BN. Sad to see these good ole 'cadillacs' go to pieces, And EMD Leasing was looking for a new image, LRC came up with this for them, I am not sure what we did with this one, maybe a CSX guy can tell us.... Pulling a freight east out of Livingston, MT, And a couple of shots of the inside of the LRC-BN-NP backhop,
And finally a pretty freshly painted FNM U-boat. She got new cabling and wiring, newly rebuilt engine, generator and traction motors, larger radiators, and a general overhaul of every other thing. These were a lot of fun to work over!
Thanks! The boxes of pics finally got relocated after getting settled into my new place, sort of . . .
It appears that the 2062 was rebuilt into a "GP-38-3", as done by the road's Huntington, WV Shops with an all-new square cab and all of the latest features. Man, it sure looked like a heap in your photo. You sure saw some pretty cool stuff in your work!
Yes there were a lot of neat locos and such! Sadly, I didn't get many pics of them when I worked in Boise. There were a lot of NJT, MARC, FDOT, CSX, VRE, BN, MPI and other units going together there when I worked there. Only a couple of a GP30 from then. I even have a pic somewhere of 8444 in Boise at the 1989 state's Centennial. Somewhere..... O Oh well, plenty of others to gander at!
Have another that I have yet to post, which will be three after counting these two! Thought it was neat that these two were sequentially numbered and shipped to LRC at the same time!
From Jan 1995 at Livingston, MT. The MRL forces added a smiley face to the point of exNYSW SD-45 359. The 259 had been in LRC's shop for some minor repairs, As had the 214, The 258 was sitting closer to MRL, and begging for a shot, sorry for the reflection of my lighting and camera, And 112, which I believe is still running around somewhere, The 208 is leading the helpers trying out a couple of the newly put in service NYSW acquisitions, The 351 was the trailing unit on the head end consist, Led by the 291! And those two sandwiched an ex BN SD-45,
Here is a rare item, a pair of un-vandalized, practically freshly painted MRL boxcars, And the sad end of a pair of GP-20's, The 211 leading a pusher set at the west crossing in Livingston, We had some CR stuff show up, but I am not remembering what we did with them, yet,
And last for today, this NP cab is still sitting at the Livingston museum, The controls for this ex-GN spreader are rather un-imposing, But some one has added their commentary to the GN Safety sticker,
It is fun! And stirs up the memory, sometimes painfully! May need more use to be properly lubed up in there. The job I had there was probably my favorite. LRC worked on a lot of different locomotive types for so many roads. It is sad to see the whole thing empty any time I go through there, but that whole industry is just gone.
Was heading into work on a cold and snowy morning, Livingston, MT Jan 1995. MOST interestlngly, there are two different SD40-2B's! The 7500 and 7502, which are different from each other.
