Considering all the non-bullfrog snot I've been dealing with for the past week... It's amazing to me that I'm buying any kind of SNOT. Just placed an order through BLW. Bill... I'm sorry I ever doubted you. Looks like you have a big time winning product.
"No BULLFROGs are harmed in the making of this product. They all live happily ever after." And breathing easier with clear sinuses! It's a win/win situation
OK - so say I'm an idiot... Many are thinking it, now you can say it. I'd love to use bullfrog snot. I have a loco. I have a foam cradle. I have a toothpick. I have a transformer and wires. I will have bullfrog snot. Thing is I only have 2 hands. Where do I apply power to an upside down steamer, such that I can get the wheels to turn and not break anything?
Here is what I use. An Atlas C80 bumper. Attach wires...turn it over...apply to electrical pickup wheels. I imagine it would work on a steamer too...even if the pickups are in the tender. This leaves on hand free to apply snot...or take pictures even...:tb-wink: .
Yup ! Best part...the bumper slips right back into the rail joiners on the end my 2 foot piece of test track thats glued down to the remaining piece of an old 48 inch wood ruler... Multitasking at it's best...:tb-wink::tb-biggrin: .
Bumper is a great idea. It just needs to be slightly weighted down to keep contact with the wheels. As to the last quesry- If there is tender pickup, a clip onto one axle and a clip onto the other. If engine pickup, frame for one and you might have to hunt around for the other pickup depending on make and model. I have found them on a front truck, rear truck, the pull bar between the engine and the tender, etc. etc. etc. Just hunt and peck around and you will know you are good when suddenly the drivers start moving.
I'm a cheapie! I just cut a piece of scrap rail to 3" and super-glued to a scrap piece of Masonite. Then did everything else mentioned above - attache wires, rail joiners, etc.
Which axle for steam I was noticing how guys were talking about putting BFS on the rear axle of steamers and worrying about wheelies and having to weight the front end to kep the pilot truck on the rails. Why not just Snot the FRONT drivers, instead? I'm not asking this as a smartie, but as an actual question, along the lines of front-wheel versus rear-wheel drive cars. Wouldn't it give better traction for the BFS if you apply it to the leading wheelset? Besides, that would probably relieve the need to add weight to the loco, which will ALSO give the motor a chance to pull more load instead of pulling it's own weight, and THAT should mean the motor won't overheat with a long string of revenue cars. Just my own $0.02 worth. Hope it helps. Jim
Applicator sale!! I notice there is no applicator that comes with the BFS. As a service I will sell applicators for $5 for 5. Free shipping in the US!! :tb-tongue:
Would you offer the appliators in a variety of colors? Could I order round or flat? Do you need anyone to field test the applicators? If so, I will do the testing for a free jar of bfs.
Applicators I will supply the applicators if the BFS guy will supply the BFS. There will be a small shipping and handling fee for the applicators. A jar of BFS!! :tb-wink:
Bullfrog Snot... a controlled substance? Hmmmm... I think you guys are getting a little giddy with this Bullfrog Snot. You guys haven't been sniffing it before applying it have you? I think future jars will need a disclaimer: The internal mixing of Bullfrog Snot with your own snot may be hazardous to you sanity.
BULLFROG SNOT applicators? Stop into any Denny's, tell 'em I sent you. They'll give you a few free applicators. Bill
I have a couple brass steamers that are in need of additional adhesion and this looks to be the answer. My MT-1s both have the typical brass drive system of one geared driver and the remainder operated via side rods (like the kato GS-4). For steam engines like this which would be the best driver to put the snot on. Also, for the MP pacific guys out there, I had luck with the MP TT upgrade by tossing the MP rubber tire and exchanging it with TT from a bachmann light mountain since the MP TT's have a tendancy to wobble.
I have a box of 'applicators' in my tool box. There are approx 80 'applicators' left of the original 100. As valuable as these 'applicators' are...I am willing to part with the whole box for ...oooohhhh lets say.... $35.00 ! That's less then half price each !!! If you would like this small box of 'applicators' sent to you Priority Mail...I will need an extra $14.94 for shipping. Thnxs:tb-cool: .
