I'm really glad to see a GP-60, but was hoping that Atlas, Kato, or IM would be making them. Maybe Life-Like will produce an excellent model, and I sincerely hope they do. But to compete fully with Atlas, Kato, and IM, they will have to raise their quality a bit, IMO. Al.
What Wig-Wag is trying to do is give you fair warning, not just passing rumors on vaporware. Plenty of time to save your dough or scrounge that recycling in anticipation of GP60s. This I believe (slam me if I'm wrong) is part of the announcement to wholesalers to establish their pre-orders. Only what's ordered by them is what gets manufactured. So if you don't tell George, your LHS, or whoever your source is what you want now, so they can establish their own orders, you may not get.
I think maybe a demonstrator and a SP unit colud be going on order, thanks for the heads up George. let us know when you are taking reservations
.....and Australia too. I just found out the the Life Like Berks were announced here 2 mths ago. From what I can gather LL has a direct distrubution and pricing structure here in oz.
All American Trains is a German dealer of US proto trains for the european market, sometimes they get it right sometimes wrong. Be careful about considering their announcements as "official". LL does not operate on a "preorder" system as we know it. They operate on a "SWAG" system, basically estimating (over as in the case of the FA's and more recently under in the case of the C424's) the market, produce accordingly, and allocate certain qty's to distributors based on their volumes and credit standing, so any foreknowledge of an upcoming release is only marginally helpful in insuring that you will get it.
Oh man, wouldn't you know it. I kitbashed a GP60M just around Christmas. That's my luck, oh well, I learned alot from that project. I really want to see these models, I hope they will be as good as the sw's and even better. They have been releasing some nice stuff. Happ Rails, Rick
Russ: All-American-Trains is a distributor, dealer in Germany. I have been told previously by Life-Like that AATs information is reliable. At least 3 U.S. distributors also use AAT info as a benchmark. Much of what is announced in the U.S. is announced in Europe months earlier to coincide with various hobby & trade shows. AAT got the E8's right, the SW8/900/600 was also announced there first. The RS-10/18 is still in the works but it comes thru LL-Canada a separate entity with separate funding. Marty McGuirk also indicated on the Atlas Forum that aside from a couple part #'s being reversed they had the TM's on the money. Since L-L hasn't done the 60M or the 60B in HO I doubt they will tackle them in N. Athearn seems to have the 60M & 60B under control in HO.
Oh darn-it!!!!! I want so much to stay out of the post 1970's era... but now with so many D&RGW units becoming available it is much too tempting to avoid them! I didn't buy the GP30's with the large "Rio Grande" lettering (aka "Action Railroad" scheme)... didn't reserve GP40's in this scheme... but couldn't resist buying one GP50 and some TMs in this scheme. Ughhhh it's happening... I feel the era widening... time to loosen the belt around the wallet again.
You know, William, I do have an extra sw1200 laying around....... I may just have to try a hand at one? I can't say it will be a 1500 or look like one but, I'm willing to try. Happy Rails, Rick
Jerry D... Are those trees, next to those great looking red/silver warbonnet GPs, made by Accurate Dimensionals?
