First Don I have to design a Layout to Run it... At the moment it Derails on my Tight Corners so I have Destroyed my Old Layout and am going to build a New one to suit it.
Here is my 7 car set "Dr. Yellow" 923 shinkansen. From what I understand this train is like the Sperry railcar. Although this train zooms along the track during the night at shinkansen speeds inspecting the overhead catenary and track below. This is a Tomix model. The Worlds Fastest Banana?? Yellow is different Don but still very Sexy... Grey One is supposed to get his " Swallow" soon ? I am still waiting on my K-1 Unitrack to arrive apparently due Next week, then I will post More ICE and Series 500 with a Possible Video of the Series 500 in Action.
Here's one I'm surprised nobody has shown yet: A couple more showing other stuff on display, as I have no place to run it! Only one not shown, is my California Zephyr. It's still boxed up. Ready for display at the Worlds Greatest Hobby showq this weekend. Denver Convention Center , downtown Denver. 9AM to 8PM on Saturday 9AM to 5PM on Sunday Admission: $9 per person Kids 16 and Under free
Great stuff, all!! That Shinkansen, Don, is huge! Does the Japanese prototype run trainsets that large?
Yep, I expect my Swallow any day now. Since I ruined my digital camera I'm not sure if I'll have pics for a while. Maybe my web cam can.
posted by Hemi: Yep! I was surprised when I learned they ran 'em that long. On some runs they run with 6 cars for the "Kodama" local service. Right now the 500 series runs no less than 16 cars.
This is a prototypical 8 car set: the 700 series Hikari Rail Star. These went into service on March 11, 2000 replacing the older 0 series on the West Hikari services between Shin-Osaka and Hakata. This set is only made by Tomix.
Another Kato express train is the "Thunder Bird" 681 series. This train is unique in that it has two different cab cars on one train.
Yes. Unlike you, I'm usually stuck on slow, under powered manifest trains with the lowest priority...I think this helps me escape. [ February 26, 2005, 02:50 PM: Message edited by: Don Rickle ]
Yeah, I hear ya. But don't think they're over powered. They cut them way back. We could outrun most of them on takeoff. Once they hit speed, they're ok. Man, I miss work
I just picked up my Kato Swallow. Sweet. Now I see why the powered car is in the “middle”. The idea is that the train runs in both directions. Putting the car in the middle means there will be at most 3 cars being pushed, (on a 6 car train). This reduces derailments. Don’t forget to elevate the outsides of the curves. I am now sure I’ll be building the passenger layout in the living room. Um, unless of course someone moves in. Edit: Tried to take a pic with my web cam. The result is just too small. Maybe I can get my Koolpix fixed. [ February 27, 2005, 09:49 AM: Message edited by: Grey One ]
Come On Grey One Its Photo Time.. Nearly all the Photo's I have have been Shot with my Web Cam.. I bought a 1 metre USB Extension cord so I can take my web cam to my Layout, use my Cordless mouse to snap the photo's and then edit them and Post them... Don: the Thunder Bird is the Only one I don't like as it has an Ugly rear end.. Next one I want to get is a Double Deck one that for Now I cannot remember the name of, but it is a Large Train..
This is the 400 series shinkansen, aka the "mini shinkansen" It was designed to run on upgraded older conventional lines. These units are coupled together with the larger 200 or E4 series after they come off the branch at Fukushima and run over the designated high speed skinkansen lines into Tokyo.
