Rob they look good! One quick question, all the pictures seem to be the city of Salina, Any chance on seeing the puulman standard type or do they look the basically the same? I am aksing out of passenger car ignorance as I don't know the spotting features like so many others do. :D

    Joe,

I am trying to see if any of the photos show the difference between the ACF and PC version. Visually, there are differences in some of the windows on the cars. The differences are there, but the window placement is basically the same due to the common design of the car. The PS car for instance has an elongated window compared to a 1/2 window on the ACF car. Also, the diaphragms on the end of the cars are different. I believe the ACF is squared on top, the PS is peaked. I think it is very interesting that Marsilius elected to create two different body styles for essentially cars of a common design (44 seat coach). I like this kind of added, yet subtle, details.

Hey Rob did you happen to notice any differences in any of the photos? I keep looking at them and can't tell. Either way I think I want a couple of them at least to start. Can or does anyone know what a typical small passenger train would look like?

    Hey Joe,

The consists depends on the route. Most short hauls like commuter service, regional or intercity routes would have more than one Coach. A UP GP9 or GP7 would work on those. On longer trains where you are covering a lot of miles would see more sleepers, baggage and lounge/dinner cars. Do you have an area you have in mind? I have some books that show common consists. Here's a link that will give you some ideas. 1950 Consists

I will add a shameless plug on another thread, but lets not stomp on AZL's news.

    Cheers

Thanks for the info Joe! Good to see that there were a few short consists out there. Like so many people out there in Z, I am mainly UP and SP, due to the locomotives that I have aquired.

    July 1st update!

Marsilius has announced new pricing for their line of 85' smooth side passenger cars. The UP passenger cars are now $33.50 each. The Auto Train cars are $35.00 each or $95.00 for a set of three. The undecorated cars are now $26.50 each.

Ztrack Center has in stock both the ACF and PS undecorated cars. The Auto Train cars are expected to arrive this week. The UPs should be here soon after that.

Marsilius cars feature intricate details, numerous parts, pad printing (no fooling with decals on these cars) and prototype accurate details. A full line of parts is also available.

    To order, please visit:

Cancel the "Autoracks" Misread. Got all excited that the Autoracks where here, NOT the Autotrains that you were speaking of:

    Retract:

Rob, lock me in for 2 sets (of 3) of those Autoracks. Bring them to NTS or get them to me BY Friday/Saturday 7/11-7/12. I have a module for them :) I can but a little plaquard above them 'available from Ztrack'

I should already have an order for the UP's.

    Rob,
Just wondering- aren't these made by Bowser?? If so, why all the back and forth across the pond?.

The injection molding is being done by Bowser. But the finish work such as the pad printing and assembly is actually being done in Germany. These cars travel quite a bit before reaching layouts!

They can be made wherever they want as long as I get mine in! :D I finally ordered that MT station that Robert made since I'll need one with passenger cars so I am very eager to get these babies in! I don't know why but I am more excited about these passenger cars than just about anything in the last year. To me this has been a void that is long overdue.

Here is a picuture of mine! They look really great the only trouble I had is that all my track is 195mm raduis. So I had to unscrew the coupler boxes and super glue them out just a tad bit further. Mine looked great on straight track but would bind on the tight turns. Well, with that they negotiate the track just fine. A little overhang, but I can live with that. I must say they look mighty fine behind the good old F-7

Mine not only derailed on the 195mm curve, but tipped the loco over too! I will have to adjust the couplers as well. They are nice looking cars though.

Yup, if you unscrew the coupler box and move it out you loose the nice tight diaphram fit, but it will allow them to negotiate the tight turns. The other thing I did was cut the trip pins and super glued the couplers in place because on the tight turns the outside rail would hit the trip pins causing them to uncouple once I got them to run through that radius. Something else I noticed is the wheel sets are larger in diameter than regular MT wheels. So I put that small MT ring shim between the trucks and the frame, you know the little circular discs that you get in the bulk packs, and that for some reason made the wheels really roll smooth. Hope thid helps, as they truely are great looking cars! :D
