    MK:

The DOF on my Coolpix 4300 is not the same as the DOF of the D-50 at 22.

I've shot the first batch of 30 photo's of the D-50 at 32 DOF or higher.

    OK Guys-

I again profess my ignorance. On my D70s, it looks like the smallest apeture is f22. From whence to I get 32 or more? Or am I mixing apples and oranges or rail spikes and electrical spikes, again?

The aperture value is dependant on the lens that is mounted to your DSLR.

Lenny is right. The stock lens that comes with the D-70 28-105mm if that is what you have has a f22 aperture setting as the smallest.

On zoom lenses, f-stops can vary with lens length. A lot of lenses are something like f/3.5-4.5, which means they are maximum f/3.5 at their widest, but f/4.5 at their longest.

Besides maximum f/stop, this often translates to minimum f/stop. So a minimum of f/22 at their widest setting could be f/32 at their longest.

I've come to the conclusion that it is the optics quality of the lenses, the quality of the sensors and Bayer (and other) filters in front of the sensors, and the large image size (with good quality pixels) that make DSLRs my choice.
