Please disregard. I opened a separate thread for this question, since this thread is not the place to discuss coupler conversions.
love the Red Thunder 510-0. The 510-5's are newer and better in many ways, but I can't take that button nose seriously lol much prefer the OG 510s that's quite a nice gift basket there, sir
Went to the Great Train Show in Ventura , CA on Saturday...I thought it was a bust, haul-wise, but one vendor seemed to have a few N scale knick-knacks that cost me all but $10: - Noch grass tufts - Yeah I can make my own with my applicator, grass, glue and a sheet of parchment paper, but, this is only $5! - MTL 1023 couplers - If someone's selling assembled Micro-Trains couplers for $3, I'm gonna buy it. - BLMA trackside electronics boxes - Again, just $2! I ended up assembling them but I had to CA some Evergreen styrene angle pieces just so the sides will bond together consistently - Nu-Comp Miniatures garage resin kit - My yard office might need a garage to store its pickup trucks. Plus it's $2! Total sticker price was $12 but the vendor sold them to me for $10. I walked out of there like a bawss.
This is my 1st of two sets I ordered of the Takeda 1/150 figures. Very nice per Pfunk's reviews. Most of the male models are about 12mm tall while the females are 11mm. This is pretty much inline with the woodland scenics figures I have. This one is the 28A (business) set and the one I am still awaiting is the 28B set. The packet of Sumo tissues were a complimentary gift included with the figures lol. Woodland scenics comparison:
Had this one join the herd today, a Bachmann 10 wheeler. It even has DCC in it [which does nothing for me] but I got it on a lowball bid on fleabay. Think it's gonna look good with a string of varnish behind it.
Well I could not resist.... Picked up another set of Amtrak turboliners and a half dozen extra passenger cars. All are Phase 3 Amtrak. I wish they had Phase 4 cars....
Bought 4 Kato locomotives. Two were SD70M's and two were SD40-2's. The SD40-2's are apparently a new run as the numbers (6111 & 6116) are different than the SD40-2's (1642 & 1652) that I purchased about 20 years ago. All have decoders installed. I like the new chassis design that makes decoder installation so simple. The amazing thing is that the prices for these were about the same or less than they were twenty years ago.
Got some additional Evergreen items to make some progress on my anthracite coal breaker. I've not done much on the layout of late. This is a cereal box cardboard mockup of what I have in mind. I usually build these first on scratchbuilt structures so as to test scale and appearance before I spend money and time cutting materials.
Got the tanker cars from Bob shipped to Denny today. Wasn't too painful, a little custom forms and what not. Thanks for sending those my way Bob.
Just received my Kato SD70 in WP/UP livery. Pretty. Adding sound, ESU58741 decoder, LED lights. I designed a new 3D printed backcase for the speaker- added extra volume with a ported box. Printing now for final dimensional checks. I will open the file for general use on TinkerCad after I double-check the fitment.
So most of you know I dabble in both DC and DCC… and… well I want my Surfliner to be both. Well kinda. I bought the second Surfliner set that Kato offers. When you get the 4 car set and the 4 car add-on in the bookcase you get a unique train from the full 8 car set. So one will be DCC and the other DC. Here is the add-on set and 4 car mini set all snuggled up in the bookshelf case. Note that the sleeve has different artwork on it on this set.
Just picked up an early run Kato F7A in BN. This is the last time it will look like this, I have something wicked for it
Don't normally post photos...I have to get the hang of it.... These Are Fox Valley Model hoppers that just arrived from ScaleTrains. For $20 each; you can't go wrong. Body mounted couplers (I clip the pin in half) and metal wheels. They all (24) roll great and look great. I wasn't, but I think I'm going to get a bunch of BNSF coal hoppers as well. The body mounted couplers were a little loose but a quick and gentle tightening of the coupler box screw fixed that. I am happy that Matt and FVM are releasing product again; its been a long time coming!!!
If your cars are "wiggly", I designed a set of shim washers to slip between the truck and the car body. They work best with truck mounted couplers, as body mounts will be raised slightly. They are available at: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/4VttARs8qKi-truck-shims-to-space-truck-from-car-bottom
