Just curiouse as to what you fellow N scalers do for fun outside of your "train time". I'm 16 years old so I'm still in high school (I'm a junior) and out side of working on models and running my company I play the drums (6 years now) and I am in a band. I also hang out with friends a lot on the weekends, as most teen agers do. What about you?
Other hobbies I have are: Hunting Fishing Military Aviation, (building model planes in 1:144 scale which is close to N scale of course) Railfanning, UP mainline runs through my backyard Riding ATVs Hanging out with friend Drinking Riding ATVs while drinking and hanging out with friends Keeping up my 4.0 GPA Shooting guns Working with guns, accesorizing guns, amature gunsmith Watching Husker football Driving my big Chevy truck through mud and watching my friend's ford get stuck [ 29 October 2001: Message edited by: Scott Siebler ]

Hmmm... I mess around with drums too! (can't say I play them, that would suggest I'm somewhat good ). No bands. I also dabble in photography, mostly of...you guessed it...trains (real and models). I actually have a photo in the 2002 Walthers HO catalog, heading up the "Detail Parts" section! . One slide left over from my HO days. The main subject of the photo is a kitbashed SD45T-2 which I used several parts listed in the section following it. Had a handful of other photos appear in MR publications over the years. Drive fire engines for a living (pretty much a hobby in itself!) and hang out with the family when home. T-fan [ 29 October 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]

Hi Craig, Other hobbies include: Archeology History (reading books, visiting museums) Miniature wargaming Wild life watching Web surfing Guess which one is the most expensive ? marc
I take pics, too.. I can't say I am a photographer. Amatuer, or pro, I manage some clear shots every now and then. I love Real-time strategy games.... The ENTIRE Command & Conquer anthology is in my arsenal, and Yuri's Revenge is a kickin' game!!! I like to drag race, street race anything that will compete, and be worth my waste of gas... I am a Mopar Freak! In case my handle wasn't enough. I love the old mopars of the 50's to 70's. I am also a streamliner freak. I love the old western transcons of the 50's and 60's. I build model cars, too. Did I forget I love music? I love heavy metal of the 70's and 80's, Southern rock, and country. I think that's it...
Well, let's see.....since I live in Colorado, the first two faves are camping (gets mighty chilly even in summer at 10,000 feet) and fishing. Haven't taken up skiing yet, but my sons are pushing me to do so, so hey..... Other pasttimes are photography (railroads and my family), leading Cub Scouts, watching good college and pro football, and STILL working on HO locos and rolling stock in addition to my N scale layout (my specialty is shortlines, and I have several HO locomotives in shortline liveries). I'm a Midwestern native, but I've had all of the flatlands I can take- gimme the Rockies any day!
Well let's see I also model in HO and #1 scale Collect diecast models(yup even some Hot Wheels) Build plastic model car kits( just picked up a 1/16 scale '31 Ford roadster kit for $2.00) Pretend I'm a webmaster I'm a rabid NTRAKer.
Hey Catt, I did Ntrak back in the mid-1980s in Topeka, KS with their club. It was fun- my module was the sole representative of the Topeka club at the 1986 GATS in Kansas City, in a 12-by-65 foot layout. Kinda fun running looong unit coal trains on that layout....... I was privileged to see the "Cotton Brute" run on an Ntrak layout at KC- whadda monster! Now I know why some folks are crazy about N scale, and why I came back!
Well lets see other than N Scale my hobbies are: Hunting, deer season just ended last night. Fishing, Cars, usually Mopar, mainly my '70 Dart. Not much time for anything else as being a BNSF conductor eats up most of my time. Brian
Ok, first on my list would be of course: WOMEN!!! then Disc Golf Stamp Collecting (ships and trains especially) 1:144 scale naval aircraft 1:700 modern naval ships (US, UK, and Japan) rail photography rail websites mountain biking oh and can't forget trading cards, especially STAR WARS all accompanied by screaming guitars of 80's metal John Barnhill Nor-Cal SP/UP Connection Foothill Rails [ 30 October 2001: Message edited by: John Barnhill ]

Well, I am into tropical fish. I have a 55 gallon tank with 3, 7" long Bala Sharks and a 39 gallon tank with 4, 5" Red Bellied Paranah. I also like to work on my 94'Taurus SHO that I play around with. But mostly my time is devoted to my 11 month old son, my only son. The one that the doctor's said we (my wife and I) probably would never have. His name is Mick and he is the light of our lives. I just can't get enough of him.
Oh boy, well my wife says I have too many to do in a lifetime but oh well! I am a firefighter in my free time from the real drag of railroading for the NS and spend alot of time at the station as one of our dept's. training instructors, especially since we just got the coolest fire engine in the world last month. I collect die cast fire trucks and am also looking to by an old fire engine to restore soon. Music and concerts especially Alice Cooper and KISS. And last but definately not the least, I have a 5 yr. old running around here somewhere when he's not trying to play with MY trains!!!!

This means I am active in setting up drill teams, field exercises, Pipe and Drum band, rifle team, biathlon (shooting and skiing), and a host of other goodies... Work in the layout design forum here, and follow layout design issues in other forums on the net. Am slowlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy building a double decker N scale layout with BC Rail King in our study at home. Hang out with other model railroaders and help them build and design their layouts... the "friday night boys"......... Read, read, and then read some more.
Herman, a word to the wise!!! When I was two, I climbed up to see daddy's fish, and fell into his aquarium! If my mom had not seen me fall in, I wouldn't be here today! Make a secure lid on both, it is good insurance! Dad used aquarium cement to mount a piano hinge along the back side, then screwed that to a plexiglas 1/4 inch thick lid. He had holes in it for air, but too small for my little fingers to get stuck in. He had several suitcase latches to hold it down. Buy the time I was strong enough to open them, I was old enough to know better.
Let me think, I used to model in N-scale, now H0, but my other hobbies are Photography Writing Music on the Computer Computer programming (Games) Last but not least GOLF (Handicap of 20 but a bad game today might take it up to 23) [ 30 October 2001: Message edited by: Paul Templar ]

Other hobbies: spending time with my wife, my 7 year old son, and 10 year old daughter, following pro football (that's American football), train-watching, reading about trains. Doug Murphy
Besides N scale I do a wide range of things. Railfanning in my old Jeep. Plastic model building 1/72 Helicopters, 1/24 scale cars and Jeeps, Bikking, R/C Cars (sometimes), and watching military, sci-fi, and Bond movies. I think my James Bond collection would justify as a hobby. "Do you expect me to talk Goldfinger?" "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" "Goldfinger" 1964
Tropical fish- I'm actually down to just 2 tanks- a 135 gallon freshwater (fully planted, just a few community fish swimming between the plants) and a 20 gallon reef tank. The rest of my tanks are sitting out in the shed waiting for me to get a wild hair again. (There's around 20 or so tanks out there, ranging from 5 to 100 gallons) Scuba diving - Just can't get enough of the fish thing, I have to act like one sometimes. Computers Yard work - 1/2 acre that I mow with a push mower. Someday I'll get the whole thing planted so I don't have to mow anymore. 3 year old daughter- My favorite diversion. School- again. I'm a rabid WWF fan. Nascar Hockey Used to be a football fan before the Cowboys started this doward tumble... Oh yeah... my biggest hobby is my onward quest to become a proffessional couch potato
Although my main hobby (playing the trumpet) is how I make my living, in my free time I like to rock climb, and to a lesser extent, mountain bike. I also took a turn skydiving a few years ago, making a total of 420 jumps without incident. I have never grown up, and never plan to!
