What if, the current history of megers never happened? What would the resulting paint schemes for the affected RR be? Here are some examples. Great Northern SD70M in BSB. CB&Q SD70M in Red & Gray SP&S SD70M in Black & Yellow Northern Pacific SD70M in Black & Yellow Dan
Here are a few more. Frisco SD70M in Orange & White Here is alternate Frisco scheme. and an alternate NP scheme (this one is based upon the North Coast Limited. What if the Southern Pacific had stayed with daylight colors? Dan
Well, there'd be a lot of very happy fans and modelers! This is why I stay back in the pre-mega-merger years. When railroads still proudly showed their full names to the public. Not today's silly alphabet soupers. Which few people outside the industry can figure out what they supposedly represent... Boxcab E50
I hear people say "Beansniff" for BNSF now and then. It's hard to fall in love with an acronym that you can't rattle off as if it were its own word.
I'd probably be modeling current day Chesapeake and Ohio Railway as opposed to the early 1950's transition period.
Those Frisco Big Macs looked nice, but I bet they'd look even better in the "racehorse" passenger scheme...........hey, if KCS can repaint F-units into the new/old passenger scheme, why couldn't Frisco?
All these images look GOOD. If you are building a layout and want to build/paint a modern NORTHERN PACIFIC diesel.....Go ahead and DO IT!!!! It's your layout, you're building it YOU are the BOSS. Missouri, Sante Fe and Pacific for example. MoPac merged with AT&SF. You can do your engines any way you want. Look at the Heritage diesels UP just painted, a full size "WHAT IF?" scenario if there ever was one.
Here is my own personnal what if? It is the Minnesota & International RY, but in this scenario the M&I was never taken over by the Northern Pacific in 1941. Thus, it is still a independent RR in current times. Here is shot of a M&I U18B that I kitbashed from an Athearn U30B. Here is an paint shop drawing of what the M&I's Bicentennial paint scheme looked like. Dan
Alternate History My "what if" is based on a different merger actually happening, and an alternative paint scheme being created. Dash 8 40BW "Bloody Bonnet"
Charger, Here's my version of WP Silver and Orange, only on a SD70M. Then there is GN's Empire Builder on a F40PH and a Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific SD70M Dan
