Re post by Ngauging, my first thought when I heard about UP using these trademark names was that they are protecting their right to charge for the use of them. If UP could not show that the names were still in active use, they might not be able to retain exclusive ownership of them. On the bright side, we may have some interesting new paint schemes becoming available on future model railroad engines. Al
been following along on this post. WOW this is really great. Any chance that the units repainted will appear as F-7's lol!!!!!!!
This is cool! If these roads had still been around, they probably would have changed their graphics by now and there's a good chance it would have been something like this... or worse!
William- I'll agree that with time, they might have altered their graphics. But knowing many railroads today, they tend to keep it simple for reasons of cost. Those appear to be a fairly complex scheme to apply. Then again, why bNsF is constantly spending money on their plethora of mish-mash schemes is even more puzzling. Boxcab E50
Yuck. Paint schemes originating in the legal department. This could have been great if the paint jobs had actually born a resemblence to something MP or WP actually had on a locomotive. I'll admit that this post may not be entirely appropriate, but then again, it's all I've got to say on the subject.
Yeah I would have much preferred a straight jenks blue however it is great to see UP recognise its predecessors.
Sure beats Armour yellow! Anyone see these yet? Time to activate the trace, and await their arrival in Cheyenne!
http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/railroad/2005/0730_heritage.shtml The Missouri Pacific (1982) and Western Pacific (1983) locomotives will be followed in coming months by locomotives painted in the style of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy), Chicago & North Western, Southern Pacific, and Denver & Rio Grande.
It does make a change from yellow, but I do wish they had just gone for copies of actual paint schemes carried in the past by the predecessor roads
It will be interesting to see what the MKT will look like, I atill think they should be paying me royalties for copying my idea all in all it's great to see these locos in action
I heard that both the MP and the WP units are suppose to be thru Cheyenne on Monday morning about 6:30 am. this is from some railfans in denverwho are usually pretty accruate. Wont be able to make it up there. First heard they would go thru on sunday but was informed later of the change. Now I have to stay home and do some Honeydos plus start working on 3 more modules for are group here in longmont
After seeing what they've done so far, strange, stylized schemes, I fear the Katy unit will be just as unrecognizable. Boxcab E50
I know I probably shouldn't do this, but, as Joe Walsh once said, "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do." I would have rather seen them do the original paint schemes as well. Imagine an orange and silver SD! But, alas, UP is only doing this to line their pocketbook anyway.
it only matters to them that they get the logos right so they can charge you for using them. it is sad, the schemes don't look too bad, but the locomotive is STILL ugly!!!!
