Leaving for Denver on a 2-day schedule, on Thursday this week.
I'll be there, chasing to about Greeley, and back to Cheyenne on Friday.
A teaser, today, the Steam crew brought out their new toy,a nd got the dispatcher to allow them to make runs back and forth in front of the depot, with a single caboose as its entire train....
    Pics soon!

I'm taking advantage of it as much as possible, cuz this time next year, I'll be fighting the jitters for not hearing a steam whistle in a while!

Rods down, plenty of steam, plenty of soot!

And a new shot, the depot in Cheyenne (stinking stack train!) with steam engine!

Next year, you'll be busy chasing MRL stuff. Dashing down to Helena and vicinity frequently.

Somewhere on line, can't think of where, there's a live stream of MRL radio. You should check it out!

Bummer, I had hoped it would be down over some portion of the weekend.

Do you know about where it will stop on Thursday night?

If there are no mechanical issues, Denver, prolly at DUT, in the vicinity of the Ski Train, metinks.

I would love to see either one of these beasts run down to Texas again. I've shot pics of 3985 at Longview, TX and at MCAlester, OK the past decade.

Closest I ever get to see steam in action around here is when the radiator in my van boils over [IMG]

Yes, thanks, Hemi. I hope to have some pre-convention run coverage to post soon. 700 is to run in 11 days. Steam is alive despite the insurance companies! :D

Steam will live until railfans find it's too expensive to get their fix. Like the 3$/gallon gasoline scare. People will continue to drive, maybe less than usual, but people will flock to steam excursions as long as their Visa Platinum will not melt down....

Kristal is, and I managed to get several nice shot of the 844 all the way to Denver Union Station.
    AND a cabride!!!
I have video, and 200 pics to sort thru.....
Special thanks to the Steam Crew, for their gracious offer, and hospitality!
    Pics to follow soon.

844 ran very well all the way south, with only minor hitches.

Thanks for all the comments, folks!!

Here she is, just west of Cheyenne, on #4 track, just east of Coastal Chemical:
