It happened after the Milw was gone. I have some slides. Yes. I was at Victor, Wyoming, several times. Don't remember any actual filming ongoing during my visits. A friend got an extra part. He was one of the passengers on the train. And I believe you can very briefly see his pickup truck parked next to the depot. He got to ride up and down the line several times. When they'd back their train up the ltrack, east of the depot, it was shoving cars into already growing alder and other scrub brush. This was the next to the last time any train ever operated on the line going east. The last move was the BN rail train.
Broadway Limited Briefly saw "Broadway Limited" today. I don't know much about it except it was all on the train with some nice GG1 pictures there.
Old Movie...color.....Jack Lemmon, Doris Day, Ernie Kovaks......Northeast railfans delight. Deals with a lobster delivery and has great NE train shots...'It Happened to Jane'
 It just figures. I had to go in to visit the neurologist today and he was running 45 minutes late - missed firing up the VCR to record a copy of Broadway Limited (missed first 30 minutes). DVD burner quit on me two days ago and haven't had a chance to replace it - nuts!
"Bad day at Red Rock" I think with Spencer Tracy. The very beginning of the flick, an SP passenger train with "Black Widow" F's pulls up to an old station in the desert and drops him off. That's all I remember.
Has anyone seen the movie "Timberjack" listed lately? (Sterling Hayden, Vera Ralston, Chill Wills, etc.) Haven't seen it for a while! Logging action, a Shay loco, great scenery. Boxcab E50
OK movie fans - check out Turner Classic Movies today at noon (12:00 PM EST) - "It Happened To Jane" is on. Synopsis: Doris Day plays a gal who is running a lobster delivery business in Maine. The E&P Railroad fails to deliver, ruins her business reputation. She takes on the Pres. of the railroad in court; somehow gets control of "The Old 97", a steam engine. So, they end up running their lobsters from Maine to NY City over the tracks of the E&P with the support of the media.. anyway it's a fun little comedy with lots of great rail shots. Even great shots of Jack Lemmon shoveling coal into Old 97 while they race to NY. Ernie Kovaks is the railroad President.
It was on again this morning. Didn't pay attention to which channel. This may be one of the most often aired train related movies. BoxcabE 50
It's on Encore Action Thursday July 20 4:00 AM. I turned on TV this morning and saw the last 10 minutes of it - nuts!
Just saw this last night. Lots of stars in it. Wilfred Brimley, Kevin Bacon, Clint Howard, to name a few.
"The Bullet Train" (1975). Japanese. Features Tokaido Shinkansen. Hollywood copied this movie for the 1994 movie "Speed". "Terrorists plant a bomb on a Japanese bullet train, which will detonate if the speed of the train dips below 80 miles per hour--unless they are paid a large ransom. This predecessor to SPEED, starring Japanese action hero Sonny Chiba, was actually filmed entirely on location on the bullet train between Tokyo and Hiroshima."
Tonight I watched the Train Robbers, with John Wayne, Ann margret and surprisingly few trains in it. Decent movie though if you like westerns, Anyone know where was it filmed? Brad
If I'm thinking of the correct movie, isn't this one of many from the era, which some scenes were done in Europe? Spain or Italy? Remember the nickname "spaghetti" westerns? Reference to Italy.... Boxcab E50
Spaghetti Westerns is a nickname for a Western film that emerged in the mid-1960s, so named because most of them were produced by Italian studios. Although this movie is not on the list of such movies. This looked like it was filmed in Utah, AZ or southern Colorado. I dont think it was on the Cumbres or Durango lines. more info: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070825/
Let's not forget The Three Stooges, Cuckoo on a Choo-Choo. Larry and Shemp are living in a stolen railroad car. Larry wants to marry his girlfriend, but she won't consent until Shemp marries her sister. Shemp however, is constantly drunk and in love with "Carry", an imaginary giant canary. Moe is an investigator from the railroad, sent to discover how the car was stolen from a moving train. Moe is also in love with Shemp's girl. Shemp winds up with both women, but still prefers his imaginary canary. Charlie
