I managed to turn this into this No, not a feat of kitbashing, but a straight swap at the Derby Model Railway Exhibition on saturday Made even more sweet by the fact that I got the C44 at a knock down price As I was backdating the layout to just before the BNSF merger the C44 did not fit my time frame, and the AWRR needed a steam locomotive for railfan trips and officer's specials. It will be repainted in black, with graphite smokebox. I am very pleased with the looks and running of this locomotive. Thanks to Bachmann, and I hope they will produce some more fine steam engines.
Alan- It's interesting that you are back-dating. I've noticed that there seems to be a fair number of other people doing the same! Could it be the variety of locos and rolling stock that once was in the prototype world? Nice trade. BoxcabE50
Alan, you'll love that 2-8-0. Ever notice the similarity between "Southern Green" and SR malachite green? Just a coincidence?.... I wonder........
Alan, Tell me you won't paint it? It looks good the way it is! I had a a Rivorossi in SP, but I traded it away for a pair RS2's in CP colours. I wish I didn't trade it away. I am glad I have the Rs2's. I want to get another SP, I just love the green. I wasn't sure about B-man, but I only hear good things. Don't paint it!!! You will regret it!! You can always get another black one!!
As a steam buff it is great to see this on your layout Alan. Now many are saying don't paint it but at the moment it looks far too clean and maybe just a bit of weathering will make it look like and old loco has been cleaned up some for fan trips.
Nice trade! Were it me, I'd just weather that steamer a bit & leave the paint alone, but it's yours, so whatever you want to do is OK. Still looks better than the Tijuana Taxi paint job BNSF has adopted (I like the first orange & green scheme better)
Hmmmmm..... now I am in two minds about repainting it! It does look kinda good, if a bit too shiny, but it will be lightly weathered anyway. I may just put AW lettering on the tender, weather it a little and leave as it is for now. As has been said, I can always get a black one as well
Had another look at it today, and feel I really must paint it black. As it is, even if relettered, it is so obviously Southern. But I have really done it now, I will just HAVE to get some more steam locos.
Very clever, Doug I have to admit it looks good, but here in England we have so many green locomotives, that black would make a nice change Edit: It definitely looks better without the striping, too [ 23 April 2002, 22:13: Message edited by: Alan ]
Alan, Actually, I must admit I agree with you....nothin like a good ole' back in black steam engine. But it was just too fun to try!!! Either way, it will definitely add a new dimension to your layout. Enjoy!
That may be so, Catt, but as far as I am concerned, American steam locomotives should be black. Can you imagine a green Allegheny, or Big Boy? Yuk!
Now THAT is funny. But wait, Burlington Northern had a few green Big Boys, right? I seem to remember reading that on the Internet somewhere so it MUST be true!!! Right along with those BNSF U-50's...
