BREAKING NEWS: 6/15/24 21:53… (Wheeling, WV) The Kanawha, Youngstown & Northern Railroad Company has completed the installation of main line track between Charleston and Wheeling in the late hours of June 15th upon the arrival of the construction crew at a point south of Wheeling designated as a staging point. President and Chief Engineer P.C. Miller stated that a Golden Spike Ceremony will be held in September. Further details will be announced on the Facebook group at a later date. I should ballast the track first, but I had the urge to work on some permanent scenery at the old B&O interchange near Spencer. A ubiquitous Soo Line boxcar helps set the era. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Busy summer = slow progress The only open weekend until late August, so I did more scenery base work on the upper level. Continuing my top - down approach to the scenery, most of the work was disguising the top of the backdrop along the high line to Wheeling. I also repurposed another old DPM structure kit to put with the main building for the Lost River Lumber Co’s molding & trim factory at Spencer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Locked and Loaded, Target Acquired With the golden spike ceremony date set for 9/29, now it is time for the most necessary of projects for hosting guests. The highest priorities is to install switch controls for everything on the main tracks, so guests can run some trains and to get the basement bathroom functional and reasonably presentable. Fascia mount switch pads and throw rods have been installed at Millstone Junction and for the Bulltown Branch staging. I don’t expect to have the fascia labeled on time, so I’ll have to tape some temporary signage in place sooner than later. The other project is getting the basement bathroom to a reasonably presentable state. Operating crew comfort is a priority, so they will have a place to “set out a bad order”. I already painted the floor and have a new sink and toilet ready, but the paneling I wanted was out of stock at Lowe’s. Maybe I can get some walls finished later this week. Extraordinary work as always @GP30. I really enjoy watching your progress, such excellent attention to perspective and detail.
Session #1: Success Operating Session #1 was held Sunday 9/29. A total of 13 trains were run among myself, Jerry Doyle and Arley Mitchell. Randy Broadwater was also in attendance. The session went as well as I hoped it would, a couple cars were bad ordered and a joint needs some attention, but it ran smoothly. Thanks to those that dropped by, hopefully we can do this again on a semi regular basis when the staging yards are wired up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Getting Stoned Since I was working evening shift last week, I spent my mornings starting on a Walthers Glacier Gravel kit. This morning, I was able to paint the concrete structures and most of the steel wall sections. The rock crusher plant will be paired with the cement silos for the Valley Aggregates facility at Grantsville. Some scenery base foam was also cut and put in position on the upper level. I need to glue these in this week and start planning on painting clouds on the backdrop. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Stoned, Part 2 I picked back up on assembling the Valley Aggregates facilities at Grantsville this weekend. The previously painted metal siding sections were adhered to the concrete bases and some of the metal roofing was glued in place as well. I am pleased with how this is coming together.
