I'm mostly a Bourbon & Coke kinda guy. A late, great friend of mine introduced me to single malt Scotch (Glenlivet in particular). Two fingers, neat, sipped slowly at home on a quiet evening. Or a good Old Fashioned suits me too (in more ways than one.)
I've been there twice, several years ago, to catch the train to/from NYC for some sightseeing. It's a nice route, along the east bank of the Hudson River.
My Next Project. I have been wanting to do these since I first envisioned the layout ! I have stopped at the 'Cafe' there many times in the 80's when I drove trucks. Just off I-40. They had a 'truckers menu'. The burgers where as big as the plate and at a great price...for truck drivers !! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm !! I Finally found the dimensions on them !! YES...they are actually telephone poles ! I am just doing the arrows. I have a small diner just outside the gate to 'Lucky Penny Yard' and I am going to plant them there. TRIVIA: Twin Arrows, AZ was featured in the Movie "Forest Gump" .
Interesting! If I had all the time in the world I would look into those whacky hotels and motels along Route 66 and do a model or two.
No, but we were last there 15-20 years ago; dang, has it been that long? I just looked it up. That looks pretty cool! I may have to check it out next time I visit my sister in Schenectady.
It's a beautiful area. Have done much hiking from Harriman State Park northward along the sides of the Hudson. New Paltz, Mohonk Preserve close by, offers some of the best scenery plus rock climbing, hiking and Nordic skiing in the area. Always enjoyed spending time in the there.
There are some similar ones... .. just west of Mancos, Co not far from Mesa Verde National Park (more here). Probably not as old but have been there since I've been in the area (early 90's) so not sure when they were shot into the ground. Looks like Twin Arrows is now Uno Arrow as one maybe blew down. Sumner
