The best tool for cutting foam board is a hot knife. Look for one that is a wand type not and bow type.
Thanks, I didn't know those existed at reasonable prices. After my first look at Harbor Freight, the reviews left me less than enthusiastic, but some more expensive ones on Amazon had much better (and detailed) reviews. But I don't need to cut anything thicker than 1/2" sheets, which I can do with a utility knife or stab saw. The cut & stacked layers will be further shaped with a variety of knives, chisels, gouges, saws & rasps I have on hand from woodworking. These may be slower working, but also venture more slowly into mistakes. I can easily see the value of a hot knife for a large layout and thicker sheets of foam, though.
Here's an update on the layout under construction: PXL_20240716_234636243 by BigJake posted Jul 17, 2024 at 5:26 PM
Thanks, I sure hope so! I've been "running" a train on the track plan in XTrackCAD for quite a while. But it can only run one train at a time. Running two will get real fun!
I should have noted that the 9.75" double-track concrete tie section just beyond the crossover network in the front yard, is just a stand-in for a LH crossover, to complement the RH crossover beyond the 90 degree crossing to the northwest (north being the back of the layout). I got that new LH crossover and a couple of #4 TOs for the industrial area inside the west loop installed, but haven't taken a new photo. Still need some more bumpers. Oh, darn, another trip to the train shop...
Any excuse to go to the train store works for me. A trip to the train store makes for a very good day.
This looks like a fun layout and I love the road name... Not sure if you have the space (doesn't look like it), but FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE I would be tempted to add a foot to the left side.
Well you could buy the leg for A Fistful of Dollars. And I think that is the spaghetti western Trilogy I see what you did
These western puns are great! Some of them (mine) should be unforgiven and other we should hang em high, but either way keep those saddles blazin....
Wow, so many great screen references and I'm sure many more to go, but for me it's getting late and I'm tired so I guess I'll mosey on down to the BEST WESTERN.
