They even have body-mount Unimates. So cool! I'll use them on my FMC 4200 cu ft coal bathtub project.
Trying to start a brawl? I've been in this brawl before, so I think I'll just try to nip it in the bud. 1. It isn't your job to enforce the speed limit, and you aren't as good at maintaining the speed limit as you think. No matter how good you think you are, you aren't good enough to be that arrogant. And no matter how sure you are civilians in civilian vehicles should never drive in an emergency, but should call Professional Government Heroes © with disco lights on the roof, you haven't thought of every possible emergency. Get over yourself and try not to be an obstacle. You aren't less of a man because someone overtook you, and everyone is safer if they do it on your left. You aren't a cop (most of you aren't) and the left lane is not your birthright. Stop making excuses for hogging it and get over yourself. 2. It isn't about the speed limit. Four and more lane streets are about allowing traffic to move at varying speeds. That is what they're for. Who are you to defeat their purpose? You could be doing fifteen, and if the vehicle in front of you slows to five to turn right, you have legitimate business in the passing lane. You could be doing a cool hundred, but if yours is the only car on the road (and I certainly hope it is!), you have no business in the passing lane. 3. Driving side by side, holding hands with another car, refusing to go single file because that isn't democratic enough for you is not just rude. It's dangerous and stupid. Even a topheavy, teetering four by four can change lanes in much less distance than it can stop. By driving side by side with another vehicle, you are robbing yourself of your best chance to avoid that unexpected obstacle, that accident waiting to happen to you. Please, not for my sake, not for the sake of peace in this thread, but for your sake and those you love who ride with you, please just think about it before you reject these thoughts. If I have a point, then I have a point about a deadly serious topic.
Yes, absolutely. I agree with Hemi 100%. What did just happen? Did I make you think? The subject is worth the trouble of thinking through.
This is something that really bothered me when I was driving tractor trailer trucks. Not the part about two cars having a slow speed race, they're just bear bait. But the part about cars riding along side trucks. I've had this happen where two miles later and the car was still there. Worse scenario, they drift into a blind spot and you forget someone was passing you and you have to make a split second decision. I know people don't like being behind trucks, it's like following a wall down the highway. What happens is they become anxious about not being able to see so they decide to pass, not a problem. Once they begin to pass they start calming down and unknowingly they slow down. This is why I believe more people should use cruise control on the Interstate Highways, the average driver really dosen't do a very good job of maintaining speed. Everyone thinks they're as good a driver as a race car driver, but the only reason there are not more accidents and deaths on the roads, is because how much smarter and safer cars are today. Sadly, the majority of people sitting behind the wheel of an automobile are doing everything but concentrating on driving their vehicle. I'm also seeing a big fall off on the abilities of professional drivers as well, in my own opinion they've made trucks too easy to drive and people now act like they're just driving a big car, big mistake. But back to the original point. When you ride along side of a truck for long periods of time, you put both drivers in a dangerous position. Number one if something mechanical should happen, the person in the car now has a front row seat to the accident. Remember even with regular maintenance, any part of a vehicle can break at any time, we do not live in a perfect world. If something should happen in front of the truck, you maybe blocking their only patch to avoiding the accident and as we all know a truck cannot stop as quickly as a car. FYI, this is coming from someone who has over two million driving miles under their belt. Another way to look at this, it would take the average person 130 years to equal the same amount of driving time as I've driven professionally. The things I've seen, I really could write a book, but the biggest thing to take away from my long winded post, put the phone down, concentrate on your driving, look down the road as far as possible for possible problems, plan your exists, turns etc. and stay calm, don't let your emotions get this best of you. Also always look out for that other person who is not paying attention.
I had a trailer tire blow and the tire ripped apart and hit the car that was on the side of me right at my trailer tandems. it dented the hood broke his grill.
When I drove big rigs it was never the other big trucks around me that worried me...it was always those 4 wheelers. You never know what those idiots are gonna do !!!!
1. Check your state laws, left lane bandits. Kansas, as backwards as we can be, several years ago passed a law that indicated that in rural areas, the left lane is for passing only, and you can be ticketed for staying there. I have no faith in the KHP's willingness to enforce this, but you never know. When our otherwise worthless legislature passed this it was said that "many" other states have this law. (in what the law calls built up areas all bets are off.) 2. And I don't want to hear from truckers bitching. What sticks in my craw is one truck passing another, both with the throttle wide open, but held to one or two mph difference by their stupid governors. So the two drive side by side for miles and miles while a huge number of their hated 4 wheelers are stuck behind them, going 60 in a 75.
i too drove truck for many years and ive ran people off the the road because they stay right beside me and then they move to a spot i cant see. when you have to move you move ;you just cant stop . i gave up my truck driving for the fact that people are stupid YES that's right STUPID. ive had cars cut me off and ive killed a few because of that . not because i wanted to but because i just cant stop and a hard swerve will flip most rigs when it comes back around. BEEN there dont that too. give them big rigs respect or pay the price of life . i still see one kid that passed away when her mother decided to cut my truck off. very sad and it still haunts me even tho it was not my fault. 2 died that day and part of me as well.
Since we're doing driving-related peeves, something that really gets me is what happens when you try to follow at the correct and recommended safe distance on a highway with two or more lanes in your direction. People can't deal with it. They're going to pass you and fill that spot. Sometimes people will just change lanes into that spot I guess because it's this nice open space.
People who demand a thread be locked because they are tired of reading it. If It bothers you...dont open it ! It's NOT rocket science ! Old threads being resurrected...who cares ! Others may be enjoying it for years. Simple...scroll past it...dont open it...life goes on...shhheeessshhhhhh !!
Irritating junk phone calls, especially during the past year selling car service warranties. If you Press [2] to be removed from the call list, it does no good. If you talk to someone to be removed, it does no good. If you don't answer the call, it does no good. Despite their threat to remove you from the call list, they keep calling. If you tell them you drive a 2006 Nissan, they hang up. (Hey, I can't help it if I drive a 14 year-old pickup. ) On it goes, with the calls flowing like a river …..
Then there's the let-us-help-you-with-your-college-loan calls which never quit. For fun, my wife played along keeping the caller tied up on the phone with phony facts and amounts owed. After a while, she became bored and asked the caller, "Do you know when I graduated?" The caller had no idea of course, so she filled him in with a date 35 years ago. He cussed her out and asked why she pursued the call, to which she responded "You called me, remember?" <click>
