I think these pictures are worth a thousand words ! This is what I run into almost daily at walmart . Note how the carts are placed. Tom
LOL What sticks in my craw is pictures that are side-wise and not upright. Darn kink in my k-neck. LOL
BarstowRick, Sorry about that I was attempting to get these before my boss lodged a complaint that I had my iPhone with me and on. Tom
Disclaimer, i model Italy, with some US models for the freelance 1) models that cost a fortune (limited runs of course) and either run badly by design, or just lose small pieces on the right of way (one italian brand in particular) 2) lack of spares (most brands except german ones) 3) the guys that take out a coupler on locos to “make the front end more realistic” and turn a brand new twin cab electric or diesel in an old steamer that needs to be turned 4) people that do not respect others’ ideas of a model railroad and are apostles of you name it (DCC, sound, arduinos....) and want to convince you that mr has no sense otherwise absolutely 1) kids playing with trains (models or not doesn’t make a difference), or kids being given free kits to build during train shows here in Germany (thanks to model clubs and some producers who invest in the future of the hobby) 2) old Rivarossi, Bowser, Lima and other older models that just run and run and run even after 40 years 3) Layouts brought to shows by Schools, yes they build layouts, and very nice ones. 4) knuckle couplers, missed dearly on European models Green lights ahead for everyone
9 3/4 inch radius. Guys who insist using magnetic uncoupling is "more prototypical" than using a pick. Sound turned up to 11. Sound should have scale. Guys who refuse to weather things.
Oh boy... What sticks in my craw? Those who feel it's necessary or warranted to take a dump on other modellers. It's either taking shots at their skills, inventory, prototype, lack of prototype, speed of train, weathering, not weathering....you name it... It's a hobby! You do yours, let others do theirs. Don't like it? Keep yo mouth shut just like yo momma taught you. This is supposed to be fun isn't it?
Friends who recognize I have a modeling hobby that I take seriously. And later refer to it as the "Train Set" or the "Toy Trains". Augh.
When somebody dredges up an old thread that I am convinced I missed, until I find my response in said thread. Darned old brain..... (fortunately, current Norseman brain is 100% aligned with past Norseman brain)
This black plague of covid 19. You are supposed to stay at home locked up and isolated. So what does one do, why their hobbies of course. Except in their wisdom all the hobby supply places are just about shut down and the delivery services slowed to slower than a crawl. And now the USPS is starting to experience delays too.
Add me to the positive experience list as well. I've purchased a few model railroad items on ebay and they were delivered before the expected delivery date. The only two places I ordered from that had delays was the big brick and mortar & online shop in New York and the big brick and mortar & online shop in Maryland. The shipping was fast, them getting to the order was slow because of the COVID-19 lock-down. As for being stuck at home, fortunately or maybe unfortunately my job has always been considered essential, so it's been work as usual for me. On the other side of the coin, with all the stress over current events, I wish I could have spent the last two months at home on some much needed R-n-R. But that's OK, in 5 more years and 10 months every day will be a Saturday
Another thing that peeves me is you order something and then the next day get a shipping tracking number. Well when that happens it should be in the post office. But instead it lays in the retailers store for another 3-4 days or longer before it gets in the hands of the post office.
Yeah, don't like this much either (outside of our current COVID situation, which makes it more understandable). You'll even get the "your item has shipped!" email when, like you said, doesn't actually happen for a number of days.
We wish we could still depend on mama. It has been a while since kids were raised on Thumper's Father's Rule.
My biggest pet peeves: Driving under or at the speed limit, in the left lane. Pacing another car at the same speed. Dragging your feet driving anywhere. I entirely dislike slow drivers, except on snow and ice. Modeling pet peeves: I tend to be a rivet counter, so I'm my own worst critic. If a project isn't absolutely perfect (decals, detailing, etc), it bugs the daylights out of me. I either fix it, start over, or rage quit and go Hulk on the thing. Exploding accumate couplers, random uncoupling, low trip pins that just drop and catch in the most inopportune places. I don't do switching, so trip pins are not really necessary for me, and in my eye are optional, so I pull them or cut them. Random uncoupling of early-generation Kato knuckle couplers. I don't want my PA-1s to randomly uncouple in the same train. One day I'll retrofit them to Unimate (solid) couplers. Does Red Caboose still make those? I refitted my IM F-7s with those. No more uncoupling. MT coupler springs launching into hyperspace off the tweezers. Same goes for near-microscopic N scale superdetailing parts, like lift rings, grab irons, etc.
