    Hello, new here, so I'm hoping this is the appropriate forum.
    For background, I have rekindled my HO railroading and am aiming to replicate portions of the Markham yards in Homewood, Illinois. They are currently CN but I will be modeling around 2000 when it was still transitioning from Illinois Central Gulf and had several examples of each line.

    I have a question that I'm sure has been discussed before but I can't find mention of it.
    I want my loco to achieve a slow and smooth transition from stopped to moving like an actual freight loco would exhibit. DCC does better than DC for me, but the train still starts in what would scale to a 4 or 5 foot lurching start. My son and I sit at an observation platform just south of the actual yard. We often see a consist start moving so slowly that it is barely noticeable. I am guessing I'd have to re-gear the locomotive to a higher motor to wheel ratio to get that slow start in HO.
    Any conventional wisdom in this area? Thank you in advance.

    StuH WELCOME I'm relatively new here myself are you running both DC & DCC? I'm DC HO at the moment with two newer Walthers diesels that are "dcc ready" only as 'ave yet to take the plunge. I posted this here (permalink) a while back -->> with a standard Tyco transformer at full power I've added two very inexpensive "pulse modulators" inline to track that, when dialed back to less than 5%, well . .

    The linked post speaks for itself!

    (ps: "Layout REVAMP complete . ." NOT, if ever?)

    I just ordered one of those devises. Hope it works as stated. I'm not the best with modern electronics.

    The three I've ordered from "Duluth, Georgia" all work fine, "no static at all".

    I will have to repair the wiring on one. A wire is broke off one of the rheostats.
    But how are the in wires and out wires located? Alone with AC or DC? The engines on the N layout are simple DC. On the HO they are DCC with supposed DC capable. So I don't know about Bachmann.

    Richard, don't understand, new pulse unit purchased has a broken wire? (DC in/out wiring explained in prev post) I found the following vid on Youtube, it explains how to wire/run BOTH DC and DCC on same layout (but NOT at same time!)

    (ps: :D Don't believe it got ALL, including my two AHM "'ole style bulb type" engines, running just fine after just thoroughly cleaning the track & wheel pickups . . .)

    Below is a picture of the one I have for lights. It may do the same as the one I spoke of. It was probably someone else that posted the link to that one.
    This I have the components for;

    Sorry for the mistake. :unsure:
