Russell's one-of-a-kind EMD-powered ALCO reminded me of a kitbashed U23B with an EMD Spartan cab. This is a Kato U30C shell cut down to fit onto a Kato U25B chassis. The hood doors are wrong, but it will pass until Atlas offers a U23B: [IMG]

Mopac had a few of these. MP 4506 still had the 3" Scotchlite stripes & chevrons from it's original paint, but it picked up the eagle logo on the cab. Here's a few links to other prototype U23Bs with a Spartan cab:

Is anyone else looking forward to Atlas' Mopac B23-7s next month? They'll fit right in to my 1980's era. Bring 'em on!

    N-joy,

    Tim

Thanks Paul! I wish I had more time to finish a few undec B30-7s. I need to reinventory the fleet, but this is close:
    1 GP15-1 (my favorite)
    2 GP38-2
    2 U23B
    5 GP50
    5 SD40
    5 SD40-2 (2 Canaries)
    2 SD40-2c (1 Canary)
    4 U30C
    2 B23-7 (1 Canary)
    1 B30-7 (+1 shell that I swap with the U23B with FB2 trucks)

I've uploaded a few new roster shots for those that are interested:

    Just wondering.
Did / Does Missouri Pacific really buy UP colos and reletter? I'm not counting rivets, (I'm the farthest from proto anyone can be). Just curious. ;)

There were a couple of scenarios.

Mopac SD50s and C36-7s were delivered by EMD and GE in UP colors with MISSOURI PACIFIC lettering on the long hoods.

The majority of the "MOP-UPs" or "canaries" were repainted from Jenks Blue into UP colors by the Mopac diesel shop at North Little Rock. They retained the squared MP block lettering, known as NLR style, for subsidiary reasons until the merger was completed when they were relettered for UP. I think that due to shortage of paint colors, Mopac painted the trucks and non-skid areas grey instead of silver and green, which UP adopted as a cost-savings idea.

A few Western Pacitic GP40s were transferred to the Mopac and repainted and relettered accordingly.

I wish UP would consider painting a few units to celebrate their fallen flags. An SD90MAC in Jenks Blue would be cool. [IMG]

    Thanks Tim,
Um, you could always do a "what if". I'm sure it would turn heads.

What's that ? you said no? ok. ;)

I believe Mitch (Mopac3092) may have a couple of SD80s or 90s in Mopac.

As a matter of fact, I have a few undec Kato C44-9W shells that I'll either make Mopac "what-ifs" or a couple of leased proto-lanced roads for my kids...one of these days. :(

I see referance to "Jenks blue". Is that a color I can buy off the shelf? I really like what I do see in your models. Being "shade blind", meaning that in even moderate light conditionns I can't really make out the distinctions between navy and black I would need to get it pre mixed.

    Thanks.

Jenks Blue is the same as Mopac Blue, not to be confused with Mopac Eagle Blue, which is the lighter blue found on their earlier passenger trains. The color is named after Downing Jenks, a former Mopac chairman who decided that MP's diesels would be painted in dark blue, trucks and all. Supposedly that color was found to best resist wear and tear. The simplistic paint scheme saved costs on paint and maintenance. That's probably more info than you care to know! :D

Back on topic...Badger Modelflex makes Mopac Blue (16-86), which is what you see in the photos. I don't know of any others that have a pre-mixed MP blue.

My MoPac loco roster is a little thin, and nothing fancy:

    2 blue GP38's (Atlas)
    2 NLR(?) SD50's (Atlas)
    1 blue/grey FA1/FB1 set (LL)

Plenty of MP, T&P and C&EI cars, though.

I'll capture some pixels over the weekend.

I'd like some MP steam. Suggestions? How close are the Bachmann 2-8-0 and 4-8-2?

Thanks for the image. Now I'm really in trouble. I've been torn between SP grey and the Jenks Blue. I have this bad feelling I'll be doing both but only one color per engine.

Okay I am asking as I need to know:

Did MoPac have Sd50's in Blue? I found one of the Atlas UP yellow MoPacs in some stuff that was hidden in the house and long thought stolen @ San Antonio which made me wonder if I should get one from the new release and get it painted in the Blue to go with the B23

    What sa ye experts????

    Colonel:

Does that mean none were delivered in UP colors or that they were delivered in UP colors?

    Thanks.

I do apply modelers license to SD70MACs in Rio Grande and Rock Island

I'll do a pair of 70ms in Rock and a pair of AC4400s in Rio Grande.

Something in me says it's just not right to do a loco a RR had in the wrong scheme. HMMmmm maybe an SD60 in MoPac Blue.....
