That's a really nice kitbash of the open rack. I actually prefer the open racks to the enclosed ones, but, for whatever reason (lack of sales?)... Micro-Trains has not released very many of them.

I feel open racks would be far more interesting than the enclosed racks because you can actually load vehicles on them to add some variety. Cost to add vehicles would be prohibitively expensive though... close to $100 to fill a triple deck rack with Atlas Ford Fairmonts... about $30 to fill with Kato Toyotas.

You can load Red caboose racks. There was some article somewhere about casting car loads in one of the N scale magazines. That probably wouldn't work for a open rack though. Nice cars.

Great post and nice work everyone .I have always loved auto racks ,and after buying some I started making cars to try and fill them . I have finally finished one .Now if I could just get off my butt ,and finish filling the other 6 empty racks .

Yes Calzephyr I made these from scratch . I found a drawing miniaturized it glued it to a piece of balsa and carved it to the approxmate size . I then made a mold of the wood pattern and cast a resin blank . I continued to carve a shape the blank till I was satisfied with the way the car looked .
