I just started to run auto racks on my layout and as we know most railroads run them in one form of another from articulated to open or enclosed. The CSX is a Micro Train and the rest is Con Cor. I also have a couple of more on the way a CSX and a TTX, the only ones I like to still have are one NS and one Conrail. So show of your auto racks let's see what you have.
With over 100 of them, it would take to many posts. I was lucky enough to get the N Scale of Nevada replacement sides for the concor units, and they now blend nicely with the MT and RC units.
I modified this con cor bi level into a tri level, body mounted the couplers, and moved the trucks to the proper distance from the ends of the car. Also used the NSN etched side panels.
Well, I don't have any photos, but I do have a video! This is my autorack train on my old layout I was building while living in Houston.
Nice video, but why the melancholy music?!?! I wanted to see the entire train roll by in the crossing shot. You had it at a nice proto speed.
Not long after these photos were taken... the layout at the Big Pine and Sawgrass model railroad club was dismantled... and the club later folded. For me... a predominantly transition era modeler... these were rare photos of the autoracks in action. They have not seen the tracks since the photos were taken in fall of 2008. Since I have many late 2nd generation D&RGW and SP diesels... including SD40-2T, SD45-2, SD45-2T, SD50 and a couple of GP40-2 & GP60 engines... I figured I should have some rolling stock for them to haul. I have about a hundred pieces of post 1970's rolling stock including the autoracks, 70' centerbeams and some 53' to 89' TOFC flats. Most of these models are from Red Caboose, Micro-trains and Intermountain Railway. Since those photos were taken, every once in a while, I'll take out some of the 'modern' equipment just to look at them... but not run them. Not to sure if I'm going to continue to keep these models now... but they are beautifully done... and I'd probably regret selling them off.
I just posted three videos on the Geneva Sub blog that feature an autorack train. UPRR Geneva Subdivision Daryl
I'll gladly "store" them for you. I'll get a few pics of mine when I get home this evening. I need to see about the ConCor "improvement packages" out there for mine.
