    Hey Guys,

ok, that would explain why I haven't heard anything from him for a while.

I wrote him an email but didn't get an answer.

Could you tell me if he still produces decals. I saw his homepage and there were a few changes in the past.

    Thanks

Since he cant answer your question. I will try to answer for him. I doubt he is interested in doing any decal because the ribbons for the ALPs printer are very hard to find, but there are others who still do decals. He may still print decals that he has the artwork done. He told me that he really wants to work on his own projects. So,what are you looking for. Maybe I can guide you to the right place.

    Hi,

ok, especially I'm looking for container decals and maybe some decals for FR Maxi III sets.

Container decal names depend on availability by whatever is to offer. I'm not that picky. They should go with the Micro Trains 40' containers and maybe some MCZ 53' containers.

    Does anybody have locomotive decals?

    Thanks for now.

    Maxi III Decals

Here it is, December 22! I have not had internet access for my laptop since I left New Orleans for Beaumont, Tx almost 2 months ago. Talk about Withdrawal Symptoms!!! Ugh!

Right now I am using my fathers computer as I just arrived at my parents home today for Christmas. Will return home in about 1 1/2 weeks and then back to New Orlens for about 1.5 months on the job that was suppose to start back in early November. Crossing my fingers.

Anyways, that is where I have been. I am back, kind-of, and the current topic is Maxi III decals. My decal printer is 16 hours driving time from where I am currently at. When I return home in 1.5 weeks wil access the printers printability. Before I left home the printer was starting to act up by mis-printing lines in the decals. I printed many more than need decals for FR. Not sure why the line issue is starting. Hope it remedies itself. Will see soon.

As far as container decals, the line issue will prevent those from printing also. I do not have any decals available, sold the last just before I left home. I might need to find another ALPS printer. Gerd, do you know if that guy in Australia that Robert Ray got his new printer from still has any ALPS 1000's left?

Ok, I am back, but at a limited capacity. Can't wait to get my laptop warmed up and online...

    Hobo Tim

    Hi Tim,
the ALPS are sold out at this place since last year. I reckon I got the 2nd last one and Rob the last. In NZ are still MD-5500 available, around 850 USD.
I should try first to clean the print head with Q-Tips and a bit alcohol. If this is not working: that's it, R.I.P. MD-1000....
What's your timing for the SD70ACe shells?

    BTW: Merry Christmas!

I'm wondering what happend to the SD70 ACe Shells. What was the reason that we must pay for the shells at the end of September? Don't get me wrong, I've done many business with Tim in the past and every time I was pleased but I think we need a little update on that project or not?

Jurg, the hold up is the etch brass. He plan to us home etching, but it wasnt strong enought. He plans to use professional etching. I waited a long time for Tim to some of my projects, but I been always very happy with his work. He likes to do it right. With him away from his house, there is nothing he can do so be patient.

Thanks for the update John. Be sure I'm very patient because I'm a Z-Scaler :) On another note, I think many people have paid allready and they have a right to beeing updated frequently. That's said without any harm. We know Tim is a great guy and his qualtiy is fine too.

Jurg, the only problem is Tim doesnt have internet connection where he is. He can only access it when he goes to his dads house. We have to be reasoble. Some of you send money to Tim early, but when he found out his original plan wouldn't work, he told everybody to stop sending him money. Also, frequent updates are not necessary when nothing has change. Just give him some time, and he will get to it when he gets home.

Don't forget to test fit the mirror image handrails and end rails before they start on etching the corrected ones. :D

    As is

Tim I am very sorry that the project has gone down such a disapointing road. But to save you any more grief I will accept what you have now. Main thing for me was the shells period. Formulating
correct handrails will be an additional pleasure. So you can ship my package as soon as possible and I'll be happy. No hard feelins at all.
You are still one of God's chosen master modelers. Good Luck Bud-d-d.

This is wrong of me, i know. but i've had the test shell that tim ran for a long time and i just decided to clean it up and put it together. i had three sets of test etched railings, only one of which was "good" the other two had some poor details. but every new things has bugs to work out. so i used one of the poor sets on the test shell (i can replace the railings once tim has the new etched items back again).

i didn't know what to paint it exactly, but of all the rest of the UP heritage units, the SP daylight scheme attracted me the most. looking at all the lines, color breaks, etc., it presummed to be a real challenge, but as i studied it i decided it was worth the try. all the decal stripes are individually laid. in fact, they were all done twice. i couldn't tell from the photos of the prototype, if the stripes were white or silver, so i did them in silver. then i clearly saw they were white -- and redid them all. i was very lucky to find a micro-scale #50 decal set which had the right SP logo for the nose in as close to the right size as i was ever going to find.

so when you look on these remember two things:
    1) the SD70ACe shells/railings will be here one day soon (i hope along with you), and the shell you see is a first run test that proves, i think, how well the future runs will turn out. so that is good for everyone.

    2) the Rio Grande unit is the first kitbashed version of the shell that i made (the second -- and better one -- is the master for the resin copies) -- so it's ok that i have it done up the way i have always wanted. i had yet to finish up the railings, details, etc on this unit since the first round of postings about this kitbash . it's been sitting half-done all this time.

so now they are here and i hope you like what you see. the pictures aren't the best. it was cloudy this morning when i snapped them, and it was the best i could to since my wife was taking the camera with her on her mini-vacation to visit our daughter in Minneapolis. i brightened them up the best i could, but ... they are what they are. a photographer i am not.

    David,

These locomotives are a pleasure for the eye! Are you also planning to do the Western Pacific heritage loco? The feather might be tough though..
The DRGW logo at the nose of UP1989 is that the one from Microscale HO ski train? If yes did you change the letter 'Ski train' within the logo?

    Regards,
    Frank

    hello frank,
i'm not planning to the do the WP, though i would like to, because one of the most crucial parts of these repaints is the small lettering and shield that are visible under the rear radiator grills. when robert ray was so kind to make me a decal set for the Rio Grande unit, there were a few extra words/shields on the set -- in black letter as was appropriate for the Rio Grande unit. 3 of the heritage units have dark colors with the words/shield in WHITE lettering, 3 of the units have the black words/shield over light colors (Rio Grande yellow/ SP daylight yellow / CNW Yellow). if i do another one i could do the CNW. like the SP there are lots of stripes to lay, but the CNW logo in black/red/white is available on many N scale decals sets, and one of them will work for a Z version.

the logo for UP1989 (mainline thru the rockies) is from the N SCALE ski train set!! they don't actually have ski train in the logo, interestingly. these logos were on the cars sides at each end near the doors and kept the standard Rio Grande logo. so no wording changes were needed -- but they would have been impossible to do anyway, and too small to see if they did say "ski train".

the HO ski train decal with this logo are PERFECTLY sized for Z scale D&RGW silver/gold/black-stripe cabooses. so if you make any more of your beautiful cabooses and want the multicolor version, the logo is ready and waiting for you on the HO set.

    hope this helps,
    dave f.
