Needing a little help from my Milwaukee road friends.

I'm finally getting to detailing my N-scale Kato Milwaukee Rd SD40-2 Bicentennial unit #156. Trouble is, there's something sitting on top of the cab by the air horns that I have no clue what it is....I'm trying to find a close up but so far no dice.....Could I get a little help please, this should be on the loco for this unit to be represented correctly.....THANKS!!!!!(y)

I believe that is one of MILW’s electric bells. A good Google search should yield some images.

They had a couple different versions. One looks like a coffee can in a stick, the other looks like a square megaphone speaker.

156 was originally equipped with the Prime PM-516 electronic bell. Have never seen any offered commercially in N scale. Overland Models (brass) did offer the later Prime PM-533 squared end version, in HO, as a separate detail part.

Doink, doink, doink. I will never forget that sound!

I'm guessing the fuel tank was replaced at some point? Should be the shorter one, correct?

Yes. It was replaced. Right now I cannot recall which owner changed it, post-MILW. It was originally equipped with a 3200 gallon tank.

Thanks for the shot Hemi, and glad it was saved! I seen a pic of it in a scrap yard last year, and cringed!!

Yup, just needs a shorter 3,200 gallon fuel tank, a "debris plow" on the rear, and some good old red, white, and blue paint on her!
