Does anyone have close up pictures or drawings of a electronic bell that the Milwaukee Road used on many of its diesels? How about plans to scratch build some? I need a bunch for my SD45's and F45's. ( I know the Milw never had F45's but in my world they did)

    Steve-

They actually used two different electronic bells. So it will depend upon your chosen time frame.

The first version was a Prime PM-516. Which looked like a hand held megaphone body, without the flare, mounted end downward on a piece of flat bar. Use of this began roughly in the mid-1960's. And everything new came with it, through U36-C's.

The second was the Prime PM-733. Which had the horizontal horns with square ends. SD40-2, MP15ac, GP38-2, U30-C were factory equipped. Some older units were retro-fit. I may have a sketch somewhere, with a couple of measurements. But incomplete.

Nobody makes either of these commercially in N scale. But maybe some snowy winter's day, a person in this forum might be convinced to make us a few PM-516.... :teeth: Hint, hint.... Please?

I scratchbuilt mine for Ken's 4000's, using a few photos on the net, and a photo emailed to me from a Yahoo MILW list member.
Granted, mine are crude, but they catch the flavor of the PM-516.

It just hit me--you guys wait to ask for a detail part to be made after I scratchbuild my own? I should have known it'd work that way! ;)

    Kel-

From my memories, and what the photos show, the mount is essentially a piece of flat bar. I'd guess perhaps 1/4 inch. Width? Again, guessing about 4"?

I used .040" round rod, and .040x..010 strip to make mine. I have no idea if they are to scale.
