Also, regards the Stephantown order, the Rut was concerned that the Rut Milk was running 10 minutes late to Chatham in 1942. Today, Amtrak can be 5-6 hours late, and the attitude is "Whatever "....... Wow, have times ever changed.
Sure wish we could computer interface with your memories! That would give us some great RR movies! Ah yes. Ice skating.... Thin ice.... The old mill pond where I grew up.... Boxcab E50
That's where government failed, dismally, when setting up Amtrak. There should have been language requiring expedited handling of all passenger trains over hosting railroads. Boxcab E50
I live in Burlington and we bike in the islands of North Hero and Grand Isle. I don't think I'll ever be up there again without trying to picture the meets you document in your December 1946 train order. Amazing! Thanks to you and to Hytec for mentioning your posts.
Richard- Glad you enjoyed. I loved collecting those orders. Always looking to fill in another gap or two. I've a few short lines, CV, and D&H left to do yet from the area. Hope someone will be interested in those! Boxcab E50
Uh Ken, I'm not sure that Darren would appreciate having you compare the D&H to a "Short Line." In fact, I suspect that you may be in for a little good humored STATIC in short order....! And then for you to exhibit complete disdain for parentage and call the CV a "Short Line!" I recommend that you quickly locate the nearest Bomb or Tornado Shelter, because the Hierarchy of the Canadian National will undoubtedly come down on you with hob-nail boots for denegrating their proudest child..mg:
Well, that was just intended to be a list of what was yet available to do. Rather that naming all those short lines, I just lumped them all as such. Plus CV, D&H..... Judiciously using the comma. mg: Boxcab E50
Slap on wrist for jumping to a Confusion is accepted......:embarassed: Just having a little fun....
Wow, I went to school in Castleton for a bit while the tracks still went through campus. Also used to go to Burlington often to train watch. Between my Vermont and Adirondack train chasing memories, oh I wish I had a camera more often. Especially for the Adirondack branch of PC.
Hasn't a regional or tourist company resurrected the old NYC Adirondack Division? Aha, found it through Google - http://www.adirondackrr.com/
Well, yes and no. They have a few sections open, and the line is passable from utica all the way to Lake Placid. But trains only run from Utica and Thendara on the south end, and between Placid and Saranac on the north. They hope to have the line open all the way in the near future. We had a summer house on Mt Arab lake, and where our driveway went across the tracks there was a station for a long time. Think I might start a post about it...
Mike- Was that line at one time part of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad? If so, you might find this somewhat interesting: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=75605 Boxcab E50
