I guess the river is not navigable in that area, so nobody has declared the piers to be Hazards To Navigation, forcing their removal at tax-payer expense.

1999: Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum (Pre-SNOW Damage) On October 16, 1999 we visited the B&O Museum and had a wonderful time including taking some great photographs.
Haven't heard anything in a long time about the B&O Museum. I wonder how the repairs came along, after that storm disaster. I know they were under way. Were they able to salvage most items? I hope...
For folks that might not know, on Presidents’ Day, February 16, 2003, amid a record-breaking snowfall, one half of the Museum’s massive roof collapsed. The collapse occurred as a result of the weight of drifting snow on the western side of the building. Eyewitness accounts depict the drifts nearly six feet in depth. The first alarm was received at approximately 11:40 PM on February 16th. Museum officials responded to find two sections of the 22-sectioned roof collapsed. Two more sections fell on the opposite side of the building around 5:30 AM the following morning. The remaining seven sections caved in before 9:00 AM on the 17th. As a result of the roof collapse, tons of snow, slate, wood, and cast iron fell upon some of the most historic and important locomotives, rolling stock, Pangborn models, and small artifacts in the Museum’s collection.
B&O Museum - Not Photographer Friendly IMHO - One of the reasons you don't hear as much about the B&O Museum as you use to is they altered their Photography Policy since we were there to be NON-Photographer friendly... http://www.borail.org/policies.aspx PhotographyPhotographs are permitted for personal use only and are not to be published anywhere (including personal web sites) without the expressed written consent of the Museum. Professional photography is strictly prohibited without the written permission of the Chief Curator. Read full policy
I guess it's one more example that parochialism is alive and well, at least for organizations managed by bureaucrats. Sad, especially for an establishment that is dependent upon public access, acceptance, enthusiasm, and contributions for almost all of its funding.

Darren, when the wife and I visited the B&O Museum in 1995, Ross Rowland's 614 was there, with the headlight centered. I can't find my good photo of it but will keep looking. Here it is.
