I see an Amtrak sign. This sure doesn't look very appealing for such travelers. Have they improved facilities since then? Or is there even still passenger service?
There is still Amtrak service here as this is where they cross the US-Canada border to get to/from Montreal via the old D&H Adirondack route. This is basically a no frills stop, no services other then a bathroom and a few unattended parking spaces...

What is the origin of the name Sanitaria Springs? What there a medical past? Such as when they used to isolate ill people?
Yes indeed... The town was originally known as Osborne Hollow where there was a little known Sulpho-Phosphate spring in the area. A Dr. Kilmer purchased the property knowing it had medicinal properties and then got the local population to rename the the town to Sanitaria Springs. He built a Sanitarium and Hydrotherapium there in 1892.

This definitely is a unique passenger station, more like a home, inn, or tavern than a RR building. Not to say that D&H didn't build some unique structures, but this takes the cake. :-D
It is a home today but like you said, the D&H had allot of variations in their Depots. I read somewhere that many were built by the local population so there is no real uniformity in their design like other railroads tended to have. Here is an old photo that shows this depot when it was in use. This one I believe was built by the Adirondack Railroad Company somewhere in the 1880's and the D&H took it over in the early 1900's.
