Yes, it did at one point. The black line through it negated that logo. At the time of this photo it was being leased out by CEFX (CIT Group/Capital Finance, Inc).

I think he's saying it only said "SOO" when the Soo owned it. It didn't say "SOO Line" until it was sold, and cancelled like a check with the black Line.

Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad was known as the Soo. What other railroads were known by their nickname? I can think of the Missouri Kansas Texas, "Katy". Missouri Pacific, "Mop". Southern Pacific, "Espee". St. Louis & Southwestern, "Cotton Belt". St. Louis & San Francisco, "Frisco". New York, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville Railway or the Monon. New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad or the Nickle Plate. The Pennsylvania Railroad AKA Pennsy, Chesapeake & Ohio, Chessie. Then their were those like the CB&Q that was just called the Burlington. Or the CRI&P that was known as the Rock Island. Denver & Rio Grande.

Just initials like UP don't count.

The New York, Ontario and Western Railway (O&W), was called Old & Weary due to its financial woes and slow pace. It also was the first US Class 1 railroad to be completely abandoned in 1957.

Did they put that on the sides of cars or locomotives or use it in advertising? [IMG]
Not that the Mop ever did anything like that.:p
Did the Pennsy ever use that name in any official way?

Is this limited to official nicknames? Because the Hannibal & St. Joseph never exactly embraced "Horrible & Slow Jolting".

I don't know if this symbol was ever used by the O&W officially. I found it on the O&W historical society site.

As opposed to the New York, Ontario & Western, a.k.a. the Old Woman.

Did the MoPac ever officially call itself Mop?
