Would regular old cheap gritty toothpaste ( Not the gel ) and a toothpick work ? I like the Comet cleanser and toothpick idea. I have a FVM BNSF ES44AC I would like to strip all the lettering off of. thnxs

    Probably,let us know..
As far as the cleanser,I'd be hesitant to use it,since it has chlorine in it,could fade the paint over time..Either method is the same as using a gritty eraser, and both involve substances that could do other wacky things to paint, plus, you can't really see clearly through them to see exactly what you're doing..

I've heard someone state that they use a Pencil / Ink Eraser, I have no idea what others use or what works the best for this. Possibly its time for a manufacturer to step up here and offer a product to remove their own or another manufacturers lettering ..
Some how this got into the wrong forum here..

On the FVM locos 91% alcohol will work and not damage the underlay paint if you don't go nuts...on one GP60M in warbonnet I needed to take off the large "Santa Fe" and did it by using a semi stripped Q-tip, then as I got more off switching to a microbrush. This got 99% off, there is still a bit remaining around the door hinge areas but unless you are six inches away from the model you'll never see it...
