The one on the right IS a Cadillac. Then one on the left is a Ford product. Ford or Mercury, I believe. My brother had a yellow Pacer. I actually thought it wasn't a bad car, especially for and AMC car. Doug
Burlington Northern Helena Local Burlington Northern's Helena Local with two SD40-2s leading and a caboose trailing, glides along the Missouri River near Hardy, Montana, in 1993. This train had a caboose (for the back-up move in Helena) up until the line closed because of a washout. Unfortunately, the line remains closed today.
Montana's Bozeman Canyon A Burlington Northern SD40-2 leads six sisters across the Rocky Creek bridge, east of Bozeman, Montana on May 25, 1986. Within a year, this former Northern Pacific mainline will be operated by Montana Rail Link.
Burlington Northern motive power at rest at the railroad's engine facility in Denver, Colorado (1983).
Roaring out of Austin, MT A typical Burlington Northern grain train of the 1990s climbs Mullan Pass west of Helena, Montana, with a roar that can’t be repeated today. BN GE C30-7 No. 5022 leads a sister C30-7 and two EMD SD40-2s on the head end, while a four-unit mid-train helper is passing milepost 13, and a rear four-unit helper set is five cars from the road crossing at West Austin. During this time, Montana Rail Link helper sets are made up of a mixture of SD40, SD45 and SD45-2 units. The train fills the valley with the sound of working locomotives as it negotiates multiple curves on August 28, 1993.
In this shot taken at Hopewell, NJ on the same day in July 1976, we can see that the signal bridge once spanned a bunch of tracks. I now see four tracks in place, though only two may be in service.
Mifflin Tower on the mainline at Mifflin PA, not to be confused with Mifflinburg PA. A classic PRR tower, as found in May 1981. Open at the time, it was later closed and demolished.
Soo Line northbound at Deval Interlocking, Des Plaines, IL. [07/21/1979] Can't beat those '70s lashups.
August 1985 at Montgomery AL, the ICG's daily Mill Job is headed out to the Union Camp paper mill at Prattville. ICG GP-11 8723 is former UP GP-7 724. Another Mill Job shot, this one taken at a rural grade crossing in February 1984. ICG GP-10 8175 is former IC GP-9 9175. A website shows it was wrecked several months later on 5/29/84, but I have no details.
March 1987 at Richland, GA where two SAL lines crossed. The signal that protected the crossing is classic homespun hardware. The line at left is gone today, but the line that crosses left to right in the picture remains. I'm not sure which shortline owns it; it's the former Montgomery <=> Savannah main.
From March 1987 at Cedar Springs, GA is the Chattahoochee Industrial RR, owned at the time by its primary customer Georgia Pacific with a large paper mill there. The road is owned today by Genesee & Wyoming. Looks like components for a woodyard portal crane have arrived.
From August 1989, the SOU's Spring Street Tower in Atlanta, built in 1905 for the new Atlanta Terminal Station and demolished 2018. A monument to the SOU's first President Samuel Spencer is adjacent to the tower. In the background the SOU's Spring Street office building, vacated by NS in 2005. NS kept their business cars close by.
