My wife is out hiking today with other women on a state trail that follows an old SOU line between Alston, SC and Prosperity, SC. Built in the 1850s, it was abandoned by NS in the mid 1990s after a trackage rights agreement with CSX allowed NS to continue service elsewhere on the line. We've hiked the easternmost segment of the line and the rails and ties are gone. Really neat that further west, these are still in place. Seems that someone nabbed the milepost marker or whistle sign on that pedestal.
I didn't check the switchstand, but the feather is definitely MILW. I'll forgive the NP hat on top...
New Haven EF-4 electrics. Interestingly, 300 (behind lead 309) is at the Illinois Railway Museum, and they're planning on restoring her.
