FN was about 6 miles from Cumberland.
This post includes a tour of the abandoned tower: http://prr4ever.blogspot.com/2010/07/10-07-30-photos-cumberland-roadtrip.html
While the top level was for the tower operator, it is suggested that the first floor held the electrical equipment for the interlocking, while the second floor had a boiler room and a work area for the signal maintainers.

In the tiny tower department, we have NA at Martinsburg, WV also on the former B&O. This shot is from April '89. NA has long since closed. I don't know if it still stands or not. I've always wanted to build a model of NA in N Scale. However, I failed to shoot all four sides. :(

Wow. Small. Not a job for anyone with claustrophobia!

Not quite as tiny as implied by the view from that side.
    Here's an end view:

Isn't it fascinating that everyone gets all gussied up with the coats and hats to have their picture taken standing on top of a train wreck?:D

True! Somewhere I've seen a similar period photo of a wreck on the LV which became a social event, with women carrying parasols and men in bowler hats all looking quite joyous.

The short excursion run by the Galveston Railroad Museum through the yard at the port of Galveston had a grade crossing collision. This train does not go very fast and yet some idiot could not get across in time.

For Pete's Sake - idiot describes the driver well. Looks like the airbags deployed; evidence of speed. Scratch one old Nissan Xterra.

Yeah, it happened today. He was speeding and hit the train. I guess he thought the train should be going faster and should have cleared the corssing. It was his daughter's car.

Maybe they need a crossing warning signal like this one that came equipped with neon lights and an air raid siren:

Good. He'll not get away easy. He'll get an ear full, or more.

More information on the wreck. The caboose was leading with the locomotive pushing it back into the Museum grounds. The driver tried to beat it but failed. The driver had dropped off his daughter at the cruise ship terminal and was speeding south on 28th street. Hopefully he will have a new car for her when she gets back from her cruise. ;)

Yeah. That caboose will need a bit of attention. It should cost him or his insurance company some $$$!
