    "Last Light Grain Loads"

With minutes of light remaining in the day, a westbound BNSF grain load grinds by 33rd St west of Minot, ND. The entire train was comprised of veteran covered hoppers in a variety of BN & BNSF schemes.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I do find that a number of my locomotive pictures of that time have missing MILW logo signs under cab windows. You can see their outlines remaining, and I guess that explains it.

The Milw heralds started disappearing, late 1970's. One of mine came from a retired Lines West conductor, who kept one of those which had been on his caboose, at shutdown in March of 1980.

Mainline steam appeared in a diminutive size when the Clinchfield's "One Spot" 4-6-0 arrived in Knoxville, TN in October 1978, as sponsored by Sen. Howard Baker for a (successful) re-election bid. The No. 1 was a working steam locomotive in every way, but her power was woefully short. The Clinchfield thus rigged a diesel throttle in her cab to command the trailing B Units. Built in 1882, No. 1 is on display today at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, MD.

Whoa, never seen anything like that GP20D. Almost looks like a child from a Geep/SW marriage. ;)

    "High Sun H75 Hijinks"
With a train and decidedly high and head-on sunlight, don't take this shot too seriously. CP train H75 bound for Flaxton, ND crossing the Souris River in Minot on the CP Portal Sub.

This shot came about due to a railfan community tip about a CP heritage unit inbound on an eastbound train. I rushed home after work, grabbed the camera bag and got into position here, waiting for word on the radio. Granted, the light was all wrong for any shot here, west or eastbound, but as infrequently as I have opportunities to capture heritage units, this was a not to be missed opportunity. I was staying here until I caught something, by golly! Turned out I missed it by 30 mins, as I was still at work. Oh well. What are ya really gonna do? Rokinon 14mm.
