    BN 31st Street Yard

We are now inside the BN 31st Street Yard and Lisa catch a shot out the left side window of BNSF Build#4 and then turns back to the right side where she is sitting. The train passes a sign (Begin C.T.C) that she catches as the train start to pull to a stop in preparation to start backing back up to Denver Union Station. She takes one more shot of the Ski Train from here vantage point. She notices something sitting behind a fence and alerts me. I recognize it as an old Englewood Trolley and with what little space I have left on my camera chip I catch a shot off it before the train starts moving backwards towards the station.

We head backwards toward Denver UNION Station

As we begin our approach (going backwards) to Denver UNION Station, Lisa catches a shot of the other side of the BNSF Engine House that still has a piece of the old roundhouse still attached to it on the far side with the turntable. I'm on the same side of the train with her now and looking backwards I catch this shot of Coors Field...

    Coors Field

Lisa noticed Coors Field so she took several shots from the train perspective and in the mean time I noticed SF#925 sitting there prime for a nose shot...

    Amtrak GE P42DC #206

As we start to enter the platform area, Lisa and I both turn our cameras to Amtrak engine #206 that is sitting here as a stand-by engine for the California Zephyr.

Was the 206 a reserve engine in case of a power failure, or bad-ordered?

Amtrak always seems to keep one engine near the station for I'm sure various reasons. The Amtrak Trip we took prior to this trip, #189 was stationed in this same spot.

    Virginia City #800313 (Pullman)

Next Lisa and I both catch this very nice Pullman that is operated as Virginia City #800313. I've included a link below to the company that operates this beauty.

Perhaps the most opulent example of “Private Varnish” ever created, the car has antique furnishings valued at well over a half million dollars. A marble fireplace, hand blown glass chandeliers, Italian frescos and richly upholstered couches in its lounge give you a sense of the grand fashion in which it was created. Experiencing Luscious Beebe and Charles Clegg’s 1955 Venetian renaissance baroque style private rail car is a one of a kind experience. When it was created it was said to be the most lavishly appointed private car ever made. In addition to its stunning lounge the car has three state rooms capable of sleeping up to 8 passengers , a shower, dining room for up to 8, a full kitchen and crews quarters for 2. The Virginia City is the perfect car for a family rail excursion, or as a lead car for a private train. Paired with the Yosemite Falls or silver solarium the car can accommodate up to 18 guests for overnight travel. For higher capacity try adding the Royal Gorge to give a total carrying capacity of 40 perfect for a day trip to Reno, Portland, or Los Angeles.

Lisa will catch the next private cars that were currently in town; "patrick henry CREATIVE PROMOTIONS, INC." that you might remember from my previous RRAdventures topic on Amtrak they traveled with us to Denver. These two cars travel as a set, Sleeper Car WRHX#800149 and Dome Car #800148 which are named the "Evelyn Henry" and "Warren R Henry" respectively.

What's even cooler is that there is a train in that same spot on Google maps! :tb-biggrin:

Sadly, The End as the train is no more...

Lisa takes one last shot of the DENVER sign on the platform as the train comes to a stop concluding our Ski Train trip. We had no idea at the time this would be our last time we would travel on this train as this line is no more after 69 years of service. The last trip this train would take would be March 29, 2009; ours would be June 28, 2008. :( :( :(
