The only Railfanning I have done in the past few years has been from the drivers seat of that Big Old Truck I get to drive to make a living. Here is what I managed to get in January. I drive a lot in the dark so I see a lot more trains I just can't get photos of them.
Jolly, interesting photos. Have you seen the thread "Jim, Where are you?" Guess the Location" in this Railfan Photos forum? Jim drives a truck, too, and has had quite a string of photos asking readers to guess where he took them. Maybe you and he could have a contest? :tb-biggrin:
When you do leave the drivers seat, there certainly will be a lot of memories in these photos. Some good stuff captured!
Nice pictures; on the job rewards. I was checking your rear view mirror to see what you were driving. Maybe you could post a picture of that Big Old Truck? It could find its way to a model layout. The truck picture would add context to your nice collection.
I know where this location is so I will sit out and let one of the others guess. It just happens to be one of my stops along some certain highway. Ben
I'm a "Slip Seat" Driver, so I don't have an assigned truck, I drive mostly Volve & International trucks for Swift, whcih ships a few trailers by rail.
It is at the rest barefaced on highway 6 in Spanish fork canyon. It is west of soldier summit. The cz goes by it daily.
I forgot to ask- Is this structure originally railroad in origin? Or it just happens to look somewhat depot-like?
Jolly, thanks for the truck pics. That's a big truck, fasure. I think I see a Thermo-King trailer refrigeration unit. On my last job I was part of a team creating the software to run the multi-temp trailer units that will use new epa approved diesel engines. Now when I drive on the highway I spot the fuel tank under the trailer and notice whether the unit is T-K or Carrier.
The building was never associated with a railroad. It was built a couple years ago by the state to replace a rest area that they ripped out. It is an interpretive center as well. It is east of detour and west of gilluly.
It is the Tie Fork Rest Area on Hwy 6 near Sky View Utah. There was Nothing on the site back in 2009, they bult it along with some rebuilding of the hwy in the area. It just happens to look like a Train Depot and it has a round house behind it with picnic tables and a mock up of an old steam loco. Its a good place to stop and due some rainfanning or take a 10 hour DOT rest break, only back thing, no cell signal so you have to go down the road to get any internet.
