    Point well taken...

Well... I guess if you look at it as if you ordered a Porche 911 and instead got a Porche 911 body on a Volkwagen Beetle chassis and drivetrain... that would be cause for alarm.

Not so sure this is motor switch is quite as alarming... but the point of the deception is certainly an issue.

In any event... I recall the Atlas Forum debate... and it was a fairly contentious thread about deception and the differences between the motor types. IIRC... I took the side of wanting the companies to deliver on what they said they were going to offer... specially since most of the time we are pre-ordering these items based on the information disclosed by the manufacturers through the various dealers. I was similarly upset about the Model Power products which were supposed to be 'state of the art' rebuilt from the 'rails up'. We all know that didn't turn out to be the case... even if they improved the drive-train later... their image was badly tarnished.

It does seem that Tony's explanation of the mechanics between a 3 versus 5 pole motor is relevant though; because, motors have been the greatest 'flashpoint' in the deception debate. If the three pole motors are just as good as the five pole motors... why aren't the manufacturers up front on the issue? Are they concerned we will avoid the product as a result? Well... as most of us are not as motor saavy as Tony and other modelers... our initial thoughts are that the manufacturer is giving us LESS than we deserve... to maximize profits at our expense.

This whole issue may be an NON-ISSUE if manufacturers would simply state... TOP OF THE LINE 3 POLE, SKEW-WOUND ARMATURE no flywheel needed!!!! Would that keep us away from a model... or would we still flock to our local model train pushers to buy?
