Doesn't really say so. But I presume those same winds delaying rerailing, also caused that derailment. Is the bridge open decked? Boxcab E50
Repair crews do not work when the winds exceed 39Kph, and it is estimated the bridge will be at least a second week. Most of the bridge is open decked. I had a chance to speak with someone I know last night who is a CP dispathcer and he told me when the 93 car MMA train derail it took 800 feet to go into emergency. The west side main rail is really torn up and so are a lot of the bridge ties. There is also some cause for concern that one of the east side box spans may be have been knocked out of whack as well. There are still 4 of the 6 derailed cars to be removed, the well cars are really wedged in the space between the 2 tracks. Had the train been travelling on the east main it would have ended up in the river which may have been better.

If they had been full would they have been tipped over? Just wondering.
Oh Damaged lumber from car hitting parked cars next to it, when it left the tracks! From the other side. No on the ground, but rather IN the ground!
Russell, It would be funny if UP gets sued for damages since that train has a UP logo on the nose. After all, If the user paid the licensing fee it IS a UP train. They want all the rights to the logo they should have ALL the LEGAL rights as well. What is that anyway? an old mopac scheme with a UP patch? UP probably told them to lose the MP and add UP. HE-HE. That's great! [ March 23, 2006, 02:16 AM: Message edited by: Don Rickle ]
Keith, wow those cars look like they are about to start teetering.. Hope you used the telephoto to get those shots!! Where was this?
Were these taken on the tracks behind the western stockshow complex? If it was I saw those during the stockshow. The tracks are own and operated by the Denver and Rock Island RR (I think). I don't see how a conductor or engineer can even operate on those tracks without derailing because the tracks are in such bad shape though out the area.
I just found this thread after walking out behind my office and finding this A little closer look They had to bring in another engine as one would not pull the cars out plus they had to dismantle the turnout This is in the Dallas, Garland & Northeasterns Valley yard
Not really. Quite solid, considering. No need for telephoto, just walked up next to them and shot away! Was just east of Longmont, by wastewater facility. Just south of the old sugar mill. Used to be the old C&S mainline, now nothing more than storage tracks. Saw the BN even try to shove an empty pig flat into a small pond at the far east end of the tracks. Ran an opposed turnout! Well, the end results anyway! Not the actual event.
Here's a wreck of D&RGW 3619, captured forever by Otto Perry: "D&RGW wreck, engine number 3619, engine type 2-8-8-2. Overturned. Photographed: near East Portal, Colo., July 13, 1941. "
I made an album of an oopsie in 2003: http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID=105087051&security=ElatrJ
I was trying to figure out why photos of the drop-center flat were posted, then I realized that its "load" was its own coupler from a very empty coupler pocket...... Great catch...
