The City of Auburn has sold NP #2152 on April 3rd, 2006 to the NP Railway museum in Toppenish for an undisclosed sum of money! Good news, but I was kinda hopimg it would stay a little closer to home, like the Mount Ranier Scenic or The Snoqaulmie Museum. Oh well, just as long as she's taken care of like she deserves.
At least it will remain in the same region. On old home road rails. A little drier area. Can you find out what's been happening with that Group? I'd heard something about having a struggle, concerning still operating on the line they'd had? When I last looked at their web site, it didn't have more current news? Boxcab E50
At least it is staying in the state, I might be one of the few who is glad it is not going to Snoqualmie though. Everytime I go by there the stuff they have sitting just looks worse and worse. That and I was told by a reliable sorce that at one time BN offered them the Mapel Valley-North Bend line for a sum of $1, the museum could not make up there mind and and BN tore up the line. Kevin D Mumaw
Kevin- Not certain who told you that. It's a fairy tale. BN wanted all the rails out for re-lay elsewhere. I know all the facts. I was directly involved. Send me a PM if you want details. I will agree that it may be going to a better place. Drier climate. But what proper steam restoration facilities, are available in eastern WA, I wonder. Boxcab E50
Things are going on at Auburn's 2152 there was a crew out cleaning up the junk from around and under the locomotive!
Well I see that allmost all of the cab has been removed and some of the air lines have had there unions broken open so some progress is being gained
Has anyone been down to Auburn, or heard anything lately? I'll try to make it down in the next couple of days to check on her.
Well, checked her out on the way home lastnight. The cab's gone, and so is the front of the smokebox, otherwise looks the same. I wonder if they looked inside the boiler and found Asbestos in the boiler?
Sounds strange. Not the best appearing situation. Should be any asbestos inside. Although there could be some in a few other places, most of what's on a steam engine, was the lagging under boiler jacketing. Boxcab E50
No nasty stuff found inside and no jacket! Just stuff the bums and kids left and 2in tube ends in the smoke box. 2152 move date has been set back because the City of Auburn want to remove the building next to the locomotive first. So that will give the group more room to pull it out.:shade:
