Some more update : Trailer sprayed with KRYLON COLOR MAXX CLEAR. Gloss Crystal Clear and dried for 24 hrs. Now ready for decals : Here is what I have done today. The 1st decal applied along with the observation deck on tail end, I need to add a couple more short railings. Also on head end I have added AC vents and generator exhaust. All scratched : This pretty much wraps up the topside ! Thank you for looking, be well !
Thanks Joe ! A couple of update images. This is all I have completed on one side only and I am getting ready to apply the red wave so I need to rest my brain, oops I burned that out a long time ago. Also, I think I am not going to offer my experiences because I did not follow my own procedure today. Here is the driver side : Now, I am going to show an up close that shows how the white film shows along the cut line. I FORGOT to use my Sharpie to darken the white line. I shall remember on any future decals : I guess I could claim an age issue but no, just stupidity. There is hope ! ?
Hemi - thanks for the encouragement ! Here is another "in progress" shot of the same side of trailer. I took this shot to help find boo boos, and required adjustments. Still images are the best for that. At any rate, Hemi I think you were right. This wave decal has not completely dried and shrunk as you can see some white cut lines and I have not trimmed along the bottom of trailer. But now I know what to "adjust" : Thanks for looking and be well ! Fun, fun, fun till my wife took my toys away !
One mor for tonight. The ARI Legacy sleeper for this rig, one side nearly complete, the black areas will be chromed :
I just learned something tonight that I must pass on. Earlier in this thread I stated that I sprayed my decal paper with gloss coat before printing on it. I was wrong - Do not pre spray the decal film ! !
Another update. I use pictures to find "needed fixes" and I can see some color fixes for a toothpick and some decals that need to be laid down better. But progress is coming along. Here are 2 shots : I have not added any wheels yet, nor have I worked on the chassis or cab, that will come. I am trying to decide on a windshield ? ? Thanks for looking and be well !
It looks really good, Carl. Really good. You will have a one of a kind model when finished. It will need an up front location on your layout so it can be easily seen.
I dunno, I think he needs to do something more ambitious with it... The railroad tracks still run pretty close behind Martinsville Speedway in Virginia: If you look closely, you can see the tracks ran closer to the track. They got them re-routed a few years ago. (Yesss, this century). The parking spots in their place look like parking for the Modified series haulers when they have to share the track with the Cup Series. I sense a great need for a substantial addition to your layout, or at least dedication of a large tract of non-railroad real-estate on your existing layout for this setting...
If I remember right, Micro Machines used to make a track for their little cars. Could have an entire N scale race running at the same time.
FYI, if you wanted it to be in scale, it would take up a significant portion of most people's layouts. The top-down footprint of Martinsville speedway would need to be about seven-and-a-half feet long just to accommodate the racing surface. Nine-and-a-half, if you wanted to include the grandstands. A lot of folks' N scale layout would fit inside an N scale Martinsville Speedway. Dern near get lost inside an N scale Daytona!
The speedway is too big to fit on most layouts. IMHO the truck should be on a road going from one racetrack to another.
Thanks guys but not my goal. Well two steps forward and one huge step backwards, story of my life. I really mucked up the cab paint, chrome, and glass work : So I soaked the cab for about 5 minutes in straight acetone and can re-do the cab. The tru-color paint, GSW chrome, and the gallery glass windshield all came off without attacking the rosin cab : I shall be very cautious and take my time for paints to dry completely before moving on to next item. Be well ! In case you have never seen this n scale race tack, check out this short YT video:
That's cool! Pretty good summary of NASCAR oval racing. But I prefer auto racing that involves turning both directions! Glad to see NASCAR including more of it.
Mmmmmm, a figure 8 track! Now, just run the railroad right through the middle of it, and you have the general nature of the layout I had when I was a kid.
Hemi, Thanks for the comment and suggestion, but I have cut windshield and curb side window out of thin plastic. Will look much more realistic.
