GREAT! And I have already started a kitbash from a bachmann -8 40C. I was planning to use the up coming B36-7 as the chassis. Oh well. I guess I'll start saving now. Brian
As for where they show up - everywhere! I've seen LMX units on BNSF intermodals at Summit, and more recently saw a pair as the sole poser on a cut of Rock and Rail (RRRR - now there's a reporting mark for you) hoppers on the Joint Line in Colorado.
We saw a number of LMX units in Southern California, so I guess they are (or were) pretty well system wide.

Although they aren't good roster photos, they will give a decent idea of the look of these units...For roster shots, go to bnsfpix.com and go to the leased power section. LMX 8555, and 8574 have both been aquired by BC Rail and are rebuilt into a B39-8Eu unit, and there are 6 more on the way, so a BC Rail unit would be nice as well Happy Railroading! Dane
I saw 4 or 5 B39-8 or B40-8 today on the Gateway Western (KCS) at Slater, MO. The colors are similar to LMX but they were lettered CSOR. Anyone familiar with that? (The KCS ran a grain train out of Slater today, actually two grain trains today. The one with the CSOR locos also had a GWRR GP40, a KCS in the old white color scheme and at least one other KCS loco. The second train ran with the Dash 9s (3) and an SD unit.) Jerry Geisert [ 09 September 2001: Message edited by: jgeisert ]

In July about 10-15 of the LMX units were on the mothball track at Argentine. Getting ready to go off lease. Sad to see them go they added a nice variety on the trains. Don't know if they are stillthere or not.

quote:
Originally posted by ROMAFERN: Will the engine on this baby be as smooth as a KATO? Robert

I wouldn't bet on it. Atlas motors are smooth but not as smooth as Kato. Atlas motors tend to be noisier and sound like a coffee grinder at times.
If my experience with my Atlas diesels is any indicator, the B40-8 should be a smooth runner. BTW, unless you've ever owned an HO scale Bachmann Spectrum GP30, you have no clue about coffee grinders.
To grind coffee. The Trix U30-C would be my weapon of choice. Seriously, Have we finally reached the point in N scale in which these new locos are so good that measuring the amount of sound which eminates from them can be a standard rating or testing catagory? You always hear sound mentioned in the testing and rating of HO and other scale engines but rarely get a mention in N scale. Only if the loco is truly loud or obnoxious sounding does it ever get mentioned which is OK with me but, the sound of a Kato or a good running Atlas is taken for granted and it shouldn't be. As a side note my first power pack, a MRC Tech 4/250 could make even a Kato sound bad as I believe it has a pulsed signal at low speeds. I no longer own it as it made all my eguipment sound like it was self destructing.
COFFEE grinder! Never thought of that one! I am hooked on KATO soo bad The other day I added to my small, but slowly growing roster an SD90 and boy it sure buzzed down the track just like my Mercedes Benz that I will probably never own HA! ATLAS needs to get on the ball with their motors!!! You hear me ATLAS? Anyways...ATLAS are better than a Bachmann Spectrum GP40-2. I own one and I am happy to have it because I use it to show my wife the different between super low quality and good quality. She was very surprised, but still she won't approve every requisition for new engines to my fleet Rob
